AT&T drops tiered voice plans for new customers

0. phoneArena 11 Oct 2013, 21:19 posted on

AT&T has dropped tiered voice plans for new customers, requiring those signing up for service today to have unlimited talk and text; this means that those who would have signed up for a lower priced plan with capped minutes are now forced to pay a higher price for unlimited talk time even if it is not something that the customer wants or needs. On the other, those with a family plan won't see any changes at all...

Have you even seen the MS Plans produced by At&t? Because this is actually better for Basic phone users and Smart Phones that only want the 300MB Data. It will save those customers money on an individual plan.
Pick up a brochure before you listen to PA.

sigh..... means Verizon will be right behind. As monkey sees between these two, the other monkey does. Here is hoping Sprint and T-Mobile become more available and offer customers real choices.

Verizon is already doing this, check their website...also this isn't what AT&T needs right now especially wth T-Mobile upping the ante.

Not the case. With Sprint you can still opt for the Everything Talk, Messaging and Data Plans, they are just not advertised on the website but you can sign up at a Sprint store.

My question is who actually commits themselves to Sprint? I'd rather go with AT&T tbh.

I am one of those people that "commits to Sprint." They have Network Vision and LTE everywhere around me, and I am really glad that I have unlimited data and a cheaper plan to go with it. Sprint is no longer as bad as it used to be :)

Ahem. T-Mobile is not only faster, but cheaper and more dependable than Sprint is 99% of the time. If it works for you, great - but T-Mobile is the beat carrier atm.

That's your opinion... sprint has a bad rep... Give it time it will be a huge threat to the companies not sure what market you are but in NY VZW in store only promo if your a sprint customer and trade in your smartphone they will give u 100 off... Sprint is working on next version of lte again it's your opinion

Visit any major city and see if you can catch a steady LTE signal, yet alone 3G. Cricket is 10x better than Sprint in Chicago and that's saying a lot.

psst Verizon did that last year! Att at least hung out long enough with it... plus for basic data customers its cheaper to go with the unlimited plan...

i.e. basic plans 39.99 for 450min, 20 for text and 20 for 300mb =79.99 vs 50 for unlimited talk and text and 20 for 300mb = 70.00 Savings!

mid range plans 59.99 for 900min 20 for text and 30 for 3gb =109.99 vs 40 for unlimited talk and text and 70 for 4gb = 110.00 more data and its a .01 more a month

Really Tmobile drops its plans and steals some of ATTs customers and their response is to force people to pay for unlimited voice? Typical AT&T.

You do know the plan they are making NEW customers go one has unlimited talk right?

Not to mention as someone else pointed out, this actually will save you money. I worked for Verizon for 5 years and anytime a new plan change came out it was cutting the price; yet everyone always wants to complain that they are getting ripped off. How about we go back to the rates of 5 years ago and truly see how much higher your bill goes.

I'd personally be okay with these plans, but only if they were on par with t-mobile and their competitive prices

How can you use the words t-mobile and competitive in the same sentance? Yes T-mobile has cheaper prices, but the reason is because that's the only way they can get customers. They sure are not going to attract anyone based on coverage. So unless you live in a major city, then T-mobile is the last choice anyone would go with....That is unless that's all they can afford.

Unfortunately PA is making At&t look horrible on this move.

Basic Phone 450 Minutes, UNL TXT and Data currently is $69.99
MS Plan UNL Talk and TXT and 300MB of data (Who on a basic phone uses that much data) for $60
Smart Phone currently 450 Minutes, UNL TXT and 300MB Data is currently $79.99
MS Plan UNL Talk and Text with 300MB Data is now $70 a month

How is that Horrible?

I am not running to At&t's defense, but this is a fact that it will now be less for individual plans.

Its not better though when you go up from the 300mb. I just switched from mobile share to individual while I still could as the 3gb data for 30.00 is cheaper for me then mobile share plus I get a discount off my voice. 450minutes 39.99 (for me 30.00) will rollover&nights weekends + 3gb data 30.00 unlimited messaging with any mobile calling 20.00 . Plus with free voice calling now on ios google hangouts all the better!. Mobile share is 95.00 with only 2 gigs instead of the 3 you can get on the individual plan even with my voice discount of 25 percent off the 50.00 part of the 95.00. No matter the case its bit more per month on mobile share for one line when you move up from the 300 mb. And want more data then the 1gb .

They are trying to push clever ways to increase revenue. This is all out of fear of becoming a "dumb pipe", as voip apps begin to become the norm and voice minutes become irrelevant.

In the past, nothing was stopping anyone from singing up with the lowest tier voice plan, just a few gigs of data, using WIFI, voip, facetime/skype,, and calling it a day. Until now.....
