AT&T approves grandfathered data plans for use with iPhone 5

As it was already announced, the iPhone 5 will be available with three out of the four major wireless carriers in the U.S. – AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. And it goes without saying that purchasing Apple's new smartphone will require a subscription to a cellular data plan. That shouldn't be too big of a deal for AT&T users who prefer holding on to their grandfathered unlimited plan as the carrier will allow them to keep it. We're looking at you, folks, who still get unlimited data for $30 per month. Yeah, we know that you get throttled after reaching the 5GB mark, which is why the plan isn't truly unlimited, but still, it's a killer deal you cannot simply leave behind...

you know Sprint is going to have a new "come get your unlimited iPhone!" ad by the end of the week. xD
that's great news for AT&T customers though!

it really is. i left att several years back and now im ready to leave verizon. really regretting my departure. i hope verizon sees how customer service should be done.

Yeah I definitely agree! I sell at&t, Sprint and Verizon and we switch quite a few people from Verizon to Sprint due to the unlimited plan. I happen to also be an at&t grandfathered data guy :-D

I really hope Verizon gets their head out of their asses. Those low 2GB limits at $30 are not all that practical.

You get throttled after 3GB with AT&T on the UNL Data plan.

maybe for you, but they only do this to you because you consistenly abuse their data plans, but for other people this do not happen...

I stay in Ny and I get great service, all you people who had bad service from AT&T was either in the past or you had a malfunction device, in either case stop blaming the towers and stop coming on different websites copying and pasting same post, it becomes boring to read, especially when it does not happen to me or the 5 people I know with AT&T and yes I know its a small number to go by but I am sure the reason AT&T is over 100 million customers because other people agree........so go kick rocks

it depends on where people live.
I have used t-mobile, att and verizon.
and guess what?
verizon had the best reception, att was the second and t-mobile was the worst. All three lost data signals in my room but at least verizon had a good voice reception. the other 2 was very spotty.
Good thing was that i started using t-mobile first and att and finally verizon.

Most people with unlimited data on AT&T rarely go over 1GB.

This is a no brainer. I know people on AT&T unlimited that would leave in a heartbeat if they dropped the plan. AT&T knows this, and is only trying to make themselves look good.
