If Nokia and Microsoft really want this phone to succeed they need to advertise the hell out of it. One of the reasons why WP7 adoption in US has been lukewarm at best is the lack of advertising.

i dont agree with the tone of the article. The 710 has been a hot seller since the day it was released. It may not be "topping any charts" on a national level, but for T-Mobile, i bet cash that its in the top 3 for the last few months. The only phones that sell as good as the 710 are the SGS1 and SGS2.
The price point is phenomenal. If they can get the 900 into the reps hands for free like they are trying to do, u will start to see a big WP7 push since the reps will be comfortable with it. Advertising was a big reason for the lack of adoption so far, but the bigger reason was the sales reps. Reps had such a bad taste from windows 5/6xx that they automatically assumed wp7 was the same and refused to give it a chance. I cant tell you how many times ive heard "oh you dont want that, it runs windows" by a sales rep that never spent 2 seconds with the device. If MS/Nokia can fix that, they will be off and racing.
Besides, the last chart we looked at with sales numbers had WP7 making the largest gains percentage wise month over month. Yea, it may not equal out to a large chunk of the worldwide marketshare.. but hey, just 3 years ago android was barely a blip on the radar and was out for a year before it made any traction with the Droid series.

One of the very rare instances I agree with your remixfa. But I think we've always agreed on that the obvious bias sales reps have needs to stop.

I totally agree with remixfa, in regards to the sales reps. I 've been in the cellular business for 7 years now, and I can attest to sales reps pushing what they are comfortable with. Currently that happens to be Android and iPhone. I was a Windows Mobile user for 4 years, and have been a Windows Phone user since its debut. I know it all boils down to preference, but until someone has tried Windows Phne 7, they should not bash it the way that it frequently is. I try to show the sales reps at my store some of the advantages of Windows Phone, because honestly, everyone doesn't need(want) an Adroid or iPhone. There are many times when Windows Phone would be a better solution for the customer, but if you're a biased sales person, you're doing them(the customer) a disservice.

Very true. I was in the T-Mobile store when this idiot rep was giving these customers the rundown on the HTC Radar and Lumia 710. He told the people that the Radar had 16gb of storage and after I kindly and respectfully corrected him he insisted that it always had 16gb so I left the guy alone with his bad information. Most cases, the users of WP platform know way more about it than the reps do.

alas, i am a crappy sales rep. I won an HD7 many moons ago, and have modded it to all hell and back. Currently my daughter uses it as her personal media/game device (how many 5 yr olds do you know that have a smartphone? ha!). I've been trying to get my wife to try it and as long as I've had that phone I have not been able to get her to take it for a day. She will love it if she did, but she refuses. She was apparently traumatized by the old windows 5/6xx devices and refuses to believe it could be better.. lolz.
Thats why my first opinion on WP7 is that they should not have named it windows.. too much negative feedback automatically.

Finally official two weeks before its release. That seriously took too long. I now have to wait for my upgrade but at least now I know when I can go play with it at the store. Can't wait to see this advertising campaign.

Being a sales rep for a phone carrier, i can totally agree with the perception in the market of WP7. Having used one extensively for a time after the mango update, i was very impressed with it, and very excited to see some new phones coming with high end hardware, like camera, screen, and processors. Now if we can just get the CDMA carriers to show Wp7 some love....

Just wanted to add something.On Nokia's website it says the White model will be available April 22nd. So if you want the white one, it isn't too far away.

I got a chance to play with this phone last week and it's cool, I really like it! I think since windows hired that new guy with a strong marketing background this phone should be a hit

The Samsung Focus-Flash is a Windows Phone and it freezes a lot. My friend's store is at a 40% return rate. They've tried hard to get Windows going, but they're going to only have it for special order.
Windows needs those low prices on a 2-year contract to even be viable. And clearly the lack of specs can hurt some of these models.
The 900 looks great, especially in white, but will it's tech be viable for 2 years or is Windows going to have to fragment?

The tech will be viable. The only splinter that i see happening is when WP8 comes. Then you will have tablets that can or can not have PC compatibility depending on the tech thats used in it.
As far as the phone goes, I dont see any major reason for concern. Much like iOS, the only advantage WP7/8 will receive from dual core is more advanced gaming, better battery if optimized right, and maybe better voice functionality. Unless your an avid mobile gamer, its not something to worry about.

It will. Microsoft already announced that all of the current second generation Windows Phone handsets will receive the Apollo/Windows 8 update. And Windows handsets do not need dual core processors to run flawlessly.

I really wish Phonearena would hold guys like Victor H to some kind of standard. If they did, then He would have researched the topic first instead of cutting and pasting from other sites while throwing in his own two cents. Lumia handsets are about the only Windows handsets that are selling. The Lumia has been topping charts and winning awards since they arrived. Next time, put a modicum of work in Vic.

Just came from a corporate store in Canton, MI. I asked the salesperson if he had seen the Lumia 900. He said he had been given one after returning to work after being off for 2 days. He said the ear piece did not work. He said a coworker's lumia 900's display did not work. He said all of the lumia's recieved were defective and returned. The look on his face was like, "what's the big deal, I went back to my regular phone?" Perfect salesperson.... thanks again AT&T.
