You said it!!.. the tablets at this price point will not be able to gain alot of market share as the Ipad already is a well known name.. I'm from India and even though all the different android tablets are available here and there are extremely cheap versions also(Less than $80).. Still for the vast majority of the people a Tablet = Ipad. Laptops these days are cheaper than the tablets that Microsoft and its partners are introducing with Microsoft Windows 8.
It will be interesting to see if the price remains at this level because incase of Windows Products, they are priced higher when introduced and in a matter of months the prices start dropping. So, from an exclusive product it becomes a mass market product. There's no problem with that with the Ipad.

even microsoft's windows OS is the world's most popular and always use OS but at these pricepoint, its a complete failure! maybe it will be relevant to some but iPad has a very establish market and app store does matter coz i think the RT version are for students or for those people who only uses microsoft office's word, excel, powerpoint and onenote!
but even they have that.. iPad has also some office solution, corel wordperfect office is the best example for the best alternative to microsoft office!
so droping the price lower that the iPad is the best way to sell win8 RT/tablets! coz even there's a lot of android tablet cheaper than the iPad- same size and capability (memory etc) people still prefer iPad coz it got most of the apps needed!
so i guess if RT tablets are price like this then its not gonna be good! and iPad might still dominate! coz they might only buy RT tablet coz of office but they dont know that there are alternatives! and works just the way you wanted!

If it'll cost me $800 to buy an rt tablet with a dock... I'm going to seriously have to look into the iPad. If im gonna be paying that money, I wanna actually get my moneys worth. And the iPad actually has specs to back up it's price. Ugh...here's to the surface really being $300 Steve Ballmer.

i don't think they're gonna sell their tablets at these prices. Especially if Surface RT is just $399
