As we learned yesterday from ARM's quarterly earnings call, the company is dominating the mobile space and has been seeing huge profits. What we didn't hear were some comments that ARM CEO Warren East...

No man, in the smartphone industry Apple is the one that rules, Android follows as usual. But WP is coming fast, mark my words.

To be fair, Android is the king of smartphones due to the volume of handsets used that are Android right now. But in smart phones, iPhone is the king. Purely because of this, there is one line of iPhones, but many variations of Android.
Windows Phone has to grow, but is still amazing.

actually there is a lot of variations of iOS too, 3GS, 4, 4S, ipad 1, ipad 2, at this point there is at least 5 variations from Apple mobile OS and 3 of them are iphones selling from different prices.
Windows 7 is "king" because the "volume" of computer so that makes your argument a bit invalid since we are talking about OS itself.

yea agreed! and dont forget the ipods touch too they run in ios.. but yea in the mobile world the Android OS is king and in the computer world Microsoft is king.. it maybe an advantage to microsoft in the tablet market but we wont find out till it happends

So that is like 10 iOS devices, against 300+ Android phones, 50+ Android PMP's, 50+ Android Tablets. Good going Android, your relative market share is sooo high.

Quantity is not quality. And People get I phone just because of self induced peer pressure. IOS is so lacking. WP7 is much easier and familiar. The developer tools are great too. So the ARM ceo has based this on profound knowledge not emotions such as 'Boo hoo i bought expensive iphone; everybody is doing it but no one approves?!?' Ios and Ios users are 'idumb'. WAKE UP...

It all depends on how Microsoft enters the Tablet market. Let's face it: Tablets have not taken off in sales as most people thought they would dating back to 2010. They are not replacing the laptop mostly because business is not turning to them. If Microsoft is attacking that market with tools such as word, excel, one note and the interaction with professionals PC's, than they do have the "awareness advantage" due to companies having these windows options for years and years. Tablets do not need to be shopped to gamers, movie streaming fans, and other media consumers who may not buy into Windows as much as they would Android. They need to be sold as a work tool, and Microsoft does have an advantage.
I do think this is the path MS is taking, as they are pushing the business tools of WP8 when that comes out and are positioning to get their tablets into school systems. Sure, both Android and Windows are way behind Apple, but this market is wide open.

I think his logic is all screwed up.
When people think computers, they think Windows.. that doesn't automatically translate into any kind of advantage for windows in the tablet space.
I believe that people see tablets to be more similar to phones than PCs at this point, which, if anything, gives Android an advantage over Windows.
Having said that.. With windows 8, Microsoft has great potential to do really really well with tablets IF they go about it the right way. They need to have tablets that are priced COMPETITIVELY.. the rumors that win8 tablets are going to be around $800 will absolutely kill any chance of success for MS dead.
I know I'd buy a win8 tablet in a heartbeat if it was priced in the range of the latest Android tablets.. at $800??? I'll just buy another laptop.

Windows Tablets will not succeed because consumers don't see tablets as laptop computers. Consumers use tablets for gaming, video watching and internet surfing which all android tablets can do as well. Plus, windows tablets will cost $800 while the upcoming ASUS quadcore tablet will cost $250. That is very hard to beat.

and of course that is a fail of Microsoft....he s just let windows dying absolutely without evolution.....just desktop with icons and start button
....
who cares that Windows has many features inside when a common user doesn't see them?

I own and Android and have trouble navigating through a Windows phone with "ease"
perhaps his logic would make sense if it ACTUALLY looked like Windows? :-/

If he's talking about desktop computer he's right, but he's talking about mobiles.. then i might ask how did he become CEO? windows still needs to catch up to android when it comes to overall design, features and functionality..

I know a lot of students who would like to replace their laptops for a tablet and its just not possible now which the lack of a fully capable office suite and other various programs. I think Microsoft could give laptop functionality to tablets so that they can actually compete with laptops. I'm pretty sure Windows 8 will have more functionality than Android...
