ABI: shipments of Wi-Fi-capable handsets will grow

We have already seen some development in the Wi-Fi field – both major carriers T-Mobile and AT&T have been supporting the technology for quite a while now, and it seems things will continue to develop. According to ABI’s research based on carriers and consumers, shipments of Wi-Fi-capable handsets will double from 2009 to 2011. By the end of the year, 144 million Wi-Fi-capable handsets will be shipped, and that number will grow to 300 million in 2011. We can’t say this comes as a surprise – after all, Wi-Fi is becoming a common feature in handsets nowadays. And carriers can benefit the “extended reach and/or network load reduction”, says analyst Michael Morgan. Time will tell how precise these figures are…

Not to mention that BT 3.0 technology will assist in xfer rates to 50mb/s which is pretty sweet... Imagine xfer all of your device contents to your new device in less than 1 minute without the need for a USB cable... Pretty sweet!
