ABI: BlackBerry 10 to have installed base of 20 million in 2013 versus 45 million for Windows Phone
0. phoneArena posted on 01 Feb 2013, 15:16
ABI Research has crunched the numbers and computes that BlackBerry 10 will have an installed base of 20 million users by the end of the year versus 45 million for Windows Phone and in addition, another 5.5 million will be using tablets powered by Windows Phone 8; according to ABI, these figures are enough to keep developers interested in the two platforms...

Interesting story, thanks.
Also, thanks for the good grammar, as the majority of articles on here are also interesting, but with awful grammar.

I found one for you. ( than... then)
Once the Installed base of both BlackBerry and Windows Phone grows larger, than the battle can migrate to first and second place.
You happy now.
PhoneArena you still the best no matter what. Can't remember the last time I visited yahoo after I found you, so keep up the good work.

Sure... And Windows Phone will eat IOS soon
Big thank to Nokia.
You are raising WP to the sky.

Yep, thanks to good ol Elop, ex Microsoft employee who killed symbian, MeeGo, and adopted the os with the lowest global market share

... and returned Nokia to profitibility when most people were screaming it would take years to do it, and has cut R&D at Nokia to a third, and is expanding the use of Nokia mapping tech into a worlwide cash cow, and got Microsoft to pick up a ton of the tab.
There is plenty to dislike about Elop. I get it, I do. He made a ton of stupid mistakes, and made this transition way more painful then it needed to be. But if He can get Lumia handsets on every shelf and keep the Asha line second only to Samsung (maybe LG as well, not sure) in feature phone sales while continuing to diversify Nokia's cash streams, he will have done everthing he said he would do. Nokia will make more profit per handset just by eliminating the development and support of their own OS.

Compared to the profit and global market share in 2010, months before Elop came to power I wouldn't call it a turn around or profit by any chance, that extra cash they posted in their Q4 is more than likely from firing so many people and selling their headquarters

45 million ONLY?
Whoa, WP fanboys will call me crazy but 45M is a ridiculously low number.
At the same time iOS should reach 700 million, and Android well above one billion (roughly 1.2-1.4 billion users )

45 million isn't even rounding error on 1 billion. MS needs to work a little harder.

Give Microsoft time they are adding features very fast unlike iOs which just gives some bug fixes in new iteration...

I still say give it at least 2 more years. By then we should know where they are going. Although WP did come out in Nov 2010....its going on 3 years on the market....Android came out in Sept 2008, the Droid 1 launched in Nov 2009. Android started its rise in 2010. The rest is history.
And of course the iPhone came out the gate and ran past everyone at the time in about 2 years.
I think Nokia has a chance to do what Motorola did for Android. The Droid 1 made ppl take notice of Android. The Lumia line....the 920 at least... might make ppl take notice of WP.
But I agree...BB and WP almost have the same numbers... This might be how the market share will be.

Couldn't agree more... I know there is a first time for everything :)

Actually I think the G1 for T-Mobile is what made people take notice on Android

I like this story as it paints a real picture. Although it is with estimates it tells the truth about how these respective platforms will battle to succeed. Neither one is in the realm of Android or iOS yet but they could increase the competition and make it better for consumers.

again analysts don't know a thing!! they just keep on jumping to conclusions!! coz if windows phone is really gaining market share I think the 3 years is enough for it to have a decent market share or in double digits but they didn't!!
11. snowgator posted on 01 Feb 2013, 18:04 2 1
Based on... what? Your opinion on where it should be? Your dislike of the devices?
12. snowgator posted on 01 Feb 2013, 18:05 3 1
I put very little stock in analysts who predict what is coming in two years, but I will give a nod to analysts who study what HAS happened and how it is affecting sales now.
I see WP needing to hit close to 10% this calander year. I was hoping for last year, but WP 7 was not a good enough OS and WP 8 came late in 2012 instead of about Summer like was projected. If they hit 8%-10% worldwide, that is HUGE growth. BB10 just needs to hold serve. BlackBerry needs to keep their user base to stop the bleeding and then can rebuild momentum to increase sales.
I am such in the minority. I think there is more then enough mobile users to keep all four OS's profitable. The smartphone growth continues to climb, and the adoption of mobile continues to grow.

I also think it can be a 4 horse race. Android and Apple figting for 1-2, RIM and WP fighting for 3-4.
That said....I cant wait to try out that uBuntu phone. I need an Android phone with an unlocked bootloader... If it turns out to be any good. I might start using Linux more on my desktop.

I'm okay with where WP8 is.. With Nokia pushing their amazing devices and great support ( they just gave super monkey balls 2 and sonic cd for free), seriously to me they don't have to be first in sales to be the best phone maker.. I'll continue to support a company that seems to want to really support their customers with little perks and better built phones

Ho ho ho! Feeling a little cocky are we blackberry? YOu have a lot to prove before you get even close to that mark

I'm a big fan of windows phone and i like iOS too but i hope BlackBerry succeeds. I think BlackBerry10 is good enough to be a viable competitor. And competition is good for the consumers.

If my droid died or similar, I'd rock BB10 long before the lame WP8.
