... and returned Nokia to profitibility when most people were screaming it would take years to do it, and has cut R&D at Nokia to a third, and is expanding the use of Nokia mapping tech into a worlwide cash cow, and got Microsoft to pick up a ton of the tab.

There is plenty to dislike about Elop. I get it, I do. He made a ton of stupid mistakes, and made this transition way more painful then it needed to be. But if He can get Lumia handsets on every shelf and keep the Asha line second only to Samsung (maybe LG as well, not sure) in feature phone sales while continuing to diversify Nokia's cash streams, he will have done everthing he said he would do. Nokia will make more profit per handset just by eliminating the development and support of their own OS.

Compared to the profit and global market share in 2010, months before Elop came to power I wouldn't call it a turn around or profit by any chance, that extra cash they posted in their Q4 is more than likely from firing so many people and selling their headquarters

Give Microsoft time they are adding features very fast unlike iOs which just gives some bug fixes in new iteration...

I still say give it at least 2 more years. By then we should know where they are going. Although WP did come out in Nov 2010....its going on 3 years on the market....Android came out in Sept 2008, the Droid 1 launched in Nov 2009. Android started its rise in 2010. The rest is history.

And of course the iPhone came out the gate and ran past everyone at the time in about 2 years.

I think Nokia has a chance to do what Motorola did for Android. The Droid 1 made ppl take notice of Android. The Lumia line....the 920 at least... might make ppl take notice of WP.

But I agree...BB and WP almost have the same numbers... This might be how the market share will be.

I also think it can be a 4 horse race. Android and Apple figting for 1-2, RIM and WP fighting for 3-4.

That said....I cant wait to try out that uBuntu phone. I need an Android phone with an unlocked bootloader... If it turns out to be any good. I might start using Linux more on my desktop.
