I can see hacking a gsm phone for use on AT&T or T-Mobile as you can just switch out the Sim. On Verizon, you have to enter the esn into the system. If the esn isn't recognized, the system won't let you add it. Also, if I recall correctly (I haven't programmed a sprint phone for a couple of years), you don't go through the same OTA procedures for Sprint. You just reset the phone, it talks to the network and self programs. I think we may be able to call shenanigans on this. I'd like to see more proof of the "hack"

I agree. GSM hack is possible. But a CDMA hack isn't. As the ESN as the above posted stated isn't in the Verizon system. Also this could be a total hoax. Swapping the audio for that of an official Verizon phone being programmed. Show facts; NOT using a SIM GSM Verizon card.

you can get other carriers phones working on vzw, its not that hard for just voice and text

What kind of phones are you talking about and how would you activate them with VZW? Thank you.

There is a process, where the device in question needs to be submitted to VZW, or at least the esn does. I wouldn't think the Pre would qualify at this point. I'll have to call and see if it is on the list of devices.

i had a sprint phone working on verizon's network it was a basic flip phone but anything is possible. also if you look around on the ppc forums you will see several people who have sprint windows devices working on verizons network and visa versa.

I think this is a hoax, because there is no way that the pre can get programed like that. It has to be hard reset and then it programs itself. Besides you cant even use it if its not programed, so for him to be on the the main screen like that, the pre would had have to been programed already.

it IS completely possible... there's way to get around, i cant tell u, i have done it tons of times with alltel/sprint/us cellular phones on my vzw acct.

im also inclined to belive this is a fake. while it IS entirely possible to get other types of phones active on a VZW account the ONLY way to program them is manually. wich means he would of had to accessed the phones manual service programing to put in the A(uthentication)-key and the MDN. I also find it doubtfull the OTA would go through, OTA sends out alot of information the the phone to recognise, and as it dosent have the propper programming it never would. the OTA most likely would of returned a error message. "we're sorry, we are unable to program your phone at this time. please call 1-800-922-0204 from a landline phone, and a customer service representative will be happy to assist you. thank you for calling verizon wireless." Or i suppose its possible the OTA sent out the information and assumed the phone recognised/got it since it didnt get a error back. still inclined to belive its fake though.
