I put up the video. Yes it was a prototype, and yes it was a bad decision. I loved my job at RIM HQ in Canada, the country was outrageously expensive and the people were a bit stuck up, but the job was amazing. And no, I wasnt a designer or a programmer, I simply worked in the mail room. I was offered to participate in the alpha program RIM was running for this phone, usually all the employees get to participate in one or two a year. I was really happy to get the Thunder aka The Storm as a prototype trial over the Bold because the Bold is really just a beefed up Curve. I made the video for just one reason, and it wasnt to "expose" Rim and Blackberry for a bad product. It was revenge. See I had already been let go 2 days before I made the video, I had made the mistake of emailing several friends a few pics of the device and it came up a security breach through our crack track team ( security personell). I was subsequently terminated for this, and I made the video out of spite. I am well aware that my BB was a prototype and nowhere near the finished the product. It is a gorgeous looking device, and no I am not enthusiastic of the touch technology they are using ( the same type of touch Samsung has tried to use on the Instinct) but I also know that RIM doesnt fail. So for all you Apple enthusiasts that used my video to comfort yourself, RIM will be seeing your money soon enough, since this is a lock to drop the I Phone to their knees. The dev team used I Phones for one month and have taken alot from that experience. That is bad news for Apple. Ninja aka Harvey Fenstermaker if you question my validity and my identity, please feel free to check out my newest video posted that shows me and explains why I did what i did. I still have the Storm, I never returned it.

Wow no offense but i work for VZW and that was a pretty dumb way to lose your job. That sucks man you should have never sent those e-mails out i love my job and i would never do anything to harm that in anyway

So if you worked for RIM how did you get the HTC Coke and the LG Lotus that was also in the video?

Ok so where can we see the new video?

if you watched the video.. then you would realize that it was not an actual review. the guy who "reviewed" it is very biased toward blackberrys. check his blog. take the review with a grain of salt and make a decision when the device goes under a real review with real tests.

The "ninja" was using a Storm running old firmware so his review is pretty much irrelevant. A particular insider who has some experience with the current Storm has said nothing but great things about it.

I don't agree with Phonearena, it's like phonearena jumped on the banwagon of the ninja's review. What did he really reviewm he talked about how he didn't like the fact that you have to hightlight and press the buttton. I like that actually because then I don't have to worry about hitting buttons by mistake. He didn't go threw any applications, programs, nothing. He just talked about the screen. Second, how do we know what version he has and how old it is? We don't!! That model for all we know can be like a month old and not have any updates "remember it is in testing"!!! I still say it's something that is to look forward too.

Verizon downgraded the camera on the HTC Coke (crack? anybody, aka CDMA Pro) to a 2.0 MP camera. WTF is wrong with them? Atleast Sprint left the 3.2 MP camera on the diamond intact. And what is with pushing the screen too hard on the Thunder? On a blackberry for crying out loud. How many ppl are gonna head over to the chiropractor's for broken fingers?

Ninja, if that is you. How about some pictures. Share some with the guys over here and at HOFO. You have everyone in an uproar....it's the least you can do!

I'm very disappointed in PhoneArena. I can't believe they would say the Storm may not be good without having tried it. You can say it sucks or its awesome after you've tried it. WOW.

45. (unregistered) posted on 15 Sep 2008, 07:55

theyre passing on a review, and flat out say they will reserve their own judgment until they use it themselves. theyre a news organization and they are reporting on what little news we have of this device. im sure if there was a video review where someone raved over it they would be reporting that too.

42. (unregistered) posted on 14 Sep 2008, 23:21

where is this video?

43. (unregistered) posted on 14 Sep 2008, 23:22

I agree 200%

44. VZW insider (unregistered) posted on 15 Sep 2008, 01:53

I still can't believe how many people still talk about the iphone lol... seriously though, it sickens me.. The storm has a lifetime exclusivity clause to Verizon Wireless written into the contract that RIM signed with VZW, the clause also states that if in the first quarter of release (first 3 months for you iphone dummies) a certain number of phones are not sold, the exclusivity is lifted. I highly doubt that VZW will have a problem meeting that number though. I also take that ninja kid video with a grain of salt, 1. if you read his other blogs he is obviously a Blackberry hater, and 2. it wasnt too technically sound... Uh yeah I dont like it, you have to like press the screen and that means Im probably going to break the screen and uh yeah I just dont like it.... Oh really COOL! I guess he saved consumer reports and any other legitimate company who tests these devices from doing so... Phew I bet they are happy! HA HA HA! Im not saying the phone is going to be amazing, Im not saying that everyone and their mother are going to want it, and Im not saying that Verizon Wireless absolutely knows what they are doing, no wonder they are number1 in the US, and Gosh Im definitely not saying that RIM put together a solid touchscreen blackberry to compete with the other touchscreen phones... I wouldnt want to count my chickens before they hatch...

The video was taken down from youtube, but I found it here:http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/09/10/blackberry-thunder-caught-on-video/ Anyway, people have gripes about not having physical feedback when typing on touchscreens. If this button pressing thing works well, it could be very successful.
