74% of polled Verizon subscribers who want to get an iPhone, are holding their horses for the next one
0. phoneArena posted on 01 Aug 2011, 09:33
A relatively small sample of 216 carrier customers showed that the majority of Verizon subscribers (74%), who are planning to get an iPhone, are sniffing at the iPhone 4, and waiting for the imminent update, which should come in a month or two, if all rumors ring true...

Exactly I really have a hard time understanding why they are so obsessed with Apple when they claim Android is so superior.
39. remixfa posted on 01 Aug 2011, 11:43 3
no, just taco's buddys are avoiding this article because they know its an iFodder trap. Otherwise Miz and Gemini would be on here too. The article has no merrit. The only one arguing that it does is Taco. Like normal.. taco is wrong.
Is that taco talking to himself again? lol. oooh man, taco the "victim".. it never gets old. ooooh pooor taco, who never ever ever says anything mean, misleading, or wrong! He's soooo bullied!!! lol.
44. taco50 (banned) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 11:56 1
actually this is a fandroid trap. You fell right in as usual and make yourself look like a biased fanatic with your ridiculous claims of having to survey 20,000 people for this to be accurate.
48. remixfa posted on 01 Aug 2011, 12:16 3
Do me a favor.
can you quote me on the 20,000 people claim?
No, you cant.. because I didnt say anything of the sort. Like usual, you are a mindless iDiot that lacks reading comprehension and just makes up crap on the fly.
People never change.

you said a 200 person survey would only be valid if VZW had 10,000 customers. And for the person who said my math was wrong you're right. It would actually be 200,000 people surveyed to make the math right according to remix
77. remixfa posted on 01 Aug 2011, 15:21 2
taco, in statistics there isnt a direct correlation in size between one and the other. if 200 makes a good survey for 10,000. 2,000 isnt the magic number for 100,000. Wow dude.. seriously.. when you get to high school, take a statistics class.
117. taco50 (banned) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 19:27 0
How's that? Fandroids swarmed an Apple article as usual and insisted this was not a legitimate survey based on sample size even though it makes sense. I never even brought up the fact that iPhone users were way more satisfied then android based on loyalty to the platform.
130. Sniggly posted on 01 Aug 2011, 19:42 1
Taco, you once again made it a personal war with Remixfa. I don't care who you disagree with. You made it personal.
135. taco50 (banned) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 19:49 0
Actually his first comment was about itrolls and saying the survey was wotprthless which was right below another troll comment.
So first two comments on an Apple article were fandroid trolls as usual.
147. Sniggly posted on 01 Aug 2011, 23:52 2
And you chose to take it personally. You have no idea whether Remixfa was talking about you, and you could have chosen to leave it alone. And he's right, the survey is worthless, because with a sample size that small it's extremely easy to rig the results.
So what about his comment smacked of trolling, Taco, any more than "You like Android, therefore you don't have sex."

I'm not really sure why android fans are getting so upset. It's NOT saying 74% of Verizon users are going to buy the iPhone 5. It says that 74% of Verizon users who ALRADY WANT AN IPHONE are going to wait for the new one. That just makes sense. The could have tested more people, but the majority is just going to wait. It's almost here!

Your hypocritical a$s always posts on Android articles all the time. If it's good for you then it's good for everybody. We all have opinions & that is why we post on PhoneArena.com. I honestly don't think they do, if they did, they wouldn't be making a big deal out of this. There is NOTHING wrong with this servey. Its just common sense, actually.
78. remixfa posted on 01 Aug 2011, 15:25 2
pete, the only person thats making a big deal out of it is your buddy, taco.
The survey is pointless at the sample size. It lacks evidence, survey info, and a dozen other things. Its also not a statisically viable survey for the size of the crowd.
Noone is saying "omg its lying about 74% of iphone customers want the i5". If you actually READ the comments, you wont find that. I made a simple and correct statement about it, that Taco, like normal, has turned into an idiotic flame war.
Hell.. thats common sence. Why buy an i4 when the i5 is right around the corner?
Of course Taco will probably think that the new iphone is 5g.
86. taco50 (banned) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 15:45 0

100. pete7625 (banned) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 16:12 0
The sample size may be small, but I'm sure the results would have been the same with more people. Like you said , why buy an iPhone 4 when the iPhone 5 is right around the corner? They didn't even have to do this servey to realize most people will wait. Why do you need evidence? It's just common sense.
118. remixfa posted on 01 Aug 2011, 19:28 0
because if your going to report a survey, certain people will take it as fact because they read it on the internet (ahem Taco). All printed surveys should be backed up with verifiable data. Its a simple scientific rule. If you cant prove it, and its not easily repeatable with the same results, its not true.
That is all.
It doesn't matter if it makes sense like the headliner of the article. It needs proof or its no different than lying and saying you surveyed 300 mice and 60% wish they could be a gerbil. Wheres the proof?
In fact its worse because it does seem like common sense. When you read the rest of the article it goes from talkin about VZW iphone customers to ATT iphone customers to random android people and all over the map. All from a measly 200 people, that you assume when you start reading are VZW future iPhone customers. The meat doesn't match the headlines.
64. taco50 (banned) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 14:41 1

56. dandirk (unregistered) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 14:01 2
Sample sizes for Verizon's 100 million customers.
4% margin of error = 600
5% margin of error = 384
6% margin of error = 267
6.5% margin of error = 227
7% margin of error = 196
9.6% margin of error = 106 (please not this is almost 50% of actual polling size)
So we can predict the margin of error is 6.5% to those percentages.
Though I wonder how these numbers are effected by a multi-tiered survey presented in the article? I would guess a larger size is needed but I really don't know much about polling.
1. Sample is filtered by "wanting device", that smaller number is then polled for waiting for iphone 5... concluding 75% will wait. Without knowing the number of "wanting iphone" I would think it is hard to determine if the sample is proper or not.
Doesn't seem like a big deal... why would you buy something now, to only have it drop in price in 2 months... or get a newer version for same price (I assume).
Surprised no one is commenting on the retention rate of the poll... 94% for Apple and 42% for Android. Though again this is a tiered polled question... so sample size is reduced throwing out any people that don't have said device.
If we are to just guess that the iPhone/Android is spread evenly 50/50... The margin of error is 9.6% (assuming all assumptions are correct which is probably not the case).
That means Apple's retention could be as low as 84-100% (estimating) which is really good.
Androids would be actually 32-52% not so much. How much of this is sample size (again I do not know how these tiered polling questions affect such needs), or if there is an effect that VZW just got the iphone inside of a 2 year contract margin...
So many possibilities...
57. dandirk (unregistered) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 14:07 2
I will reply to my own post lol...
Also one of the possibilities is flat out the masses prefer ios/iphone.
My opinion is that yes this is probably the case but not 100% the reason... marketing etc can also be factors especially with Apple. I have known waaaaay to many people that only recognize iphone. Yet that may explain BB converts but not android.
My assumption is that the #1 choice (I hope) is wireless provider... so verizon customers that liked verizon service was just waiting for iphone to come to them...
80. remixfa posted on 01 Aug 2011, 15:32 2
your info is fine, but you forgot to factor in ATT's customer's too since it is part of the article so the number would be closer to 200 million. That sample size isnt just VZW customers. It also didnt say it limited its scope to just VZW and/or ATT. It could have just been a random call to people on any carrier, and in that case the group size is 300+ million.
The problem with the article is that it makes many sweeping claims without ever mentioning the scope of the sampling, the type of polling questions, on and on and on.
90. dandirk (unregistered) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 15:53 0
You know got so focused on the numbers forgot about AT&T...
There is just too little info to make too many assumptions on the data...
Did they only poll android and ios customers... What about feature phones etc.
122. remixfa posted on 01 Aug 2011, 19:33 0
that has been my EXACT point the entire time. lol. welcome to my side of this stupid pointless poll. :)
How many people had non iOS/Android phones. Hell how many people had iOS/Android phones.. what were the age groups...
what version of the iphone did they have
what android phone did they have
how many were in each group
have they had prior issues with the phone
how confidant were they in their next purchase
what is the reason for the next purchase
do they know the differences between the OS's
what do they do most on their phones and how much do they enjoy it on their phone?
on and on and on and on.
there is ZERO scope in the survey.
worst survey.. ever. :)

Hey, Android fans! This article has NOTHING to do with Android, so how did this become another Android/iOS battle. Yes, the sample size was small...so what! Do you realize how hard it is to get people to take surveys? I don't blame them for stopping at 216. Even if they had asked more people what would it matter? The report is about those who want an iPhone 5 instead of the iPhone 4. Not one word about Android at all. Pick your battles guys!
76. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 01 Aug 2011, 15:21 2
Yes, but we can interject opinions because posting on PhoneArena.com is all about opinions. I know it's not an Android vs. iOS thing, all I am saying is the poll sample size of 216 is small & a little misleading. Nothing more & nothing less. I never made this an Apple vs. Android thing at all. To me it’s not that serious.
87. taco50 (banned) posted on 01 Aug 2011, 15:50 0
why is it misleading? Who cares it's just an interesting survey. You trolls have to try to discredit everything Apple.
99. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 01 Aug 2011, 16:12 2
It's misleading because I too can survey 216 people & get an answer to say a totally different thing. 1,000 like you said would be a better number. I can ask 216 people right now & finish my poll in less than 2 hours! That is all I am saying. There are 1000 homes in my neighborhood. I can easily poll 216. Not to mention I work with over 3500 employees also. It’s too small of a sample size to have any true merit.
101. Whateverman posted on 01 Aug 2011, 16:18 1
@SuperAndroidEvo. I agree with you on the size of the survey and I think you have every right to comment on that. And I don't think you were making it about Android, but others did. A few people may have misunderstood what the Article was saying and went on the defense. But it's not fair to say Android fans are overreacting as usual, because this either taco.
104. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 01 Aug 2011, 16:55 2
