74% of polled Verizon subscribers who want to get an iPhone, are holding their horses for the next one
0. phoneArena 01 Aug 2011, 09:33 posted on
A relatively small sample of 216 carrier customers showed that the majority of Verizon subscribers (74%), who are planning to get an iPhone, are sniffing at the iPhone 4, and waiting for the imminent update, which should come in a month or two, if all rumors ring true...

You would think with useful articles like these that the iphone would be popular by now.
2. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
well gee.. with a sample size of 216 out of nearly 100 million customers, im sure its accurate within a few degrees of freedom..
this is just iTroll material.. lol
4. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
because I made a statement of fact about the sample size? lol. If that is trolling, there isnt a word for what you do. :)
7. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
You posted here just to talk crap. If the survey said 74% of VZW users are getting android you'd be totally ok with this survey.
13. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3389; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
No he wouldn't remixfa is one of the most fair people on this site. He IS right about the sample size. He would say the same if it was about Android. I agree with him the sample size is too small to even count. 216 isn't even a half of a % of the total wireless customers in the US.
17. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Do you two realize most political surveys for example have a sample size of about 1,000 people and that's for the entire country. This is pretty standard for a survey.
And remix is not even close to unbiased
26. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3389; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
Ok I will humor you taco50. STILL even 1000 is too small, but 1000 is more of an indicative number than the random 216. I don't ever remember a political survey of 1000. When I watch CNN or FOX News, most polls are done online & have 10,000 to 30,000 minimum! Most definitely not 1,000. C’mon even you have to agree that 216 is such a small number that this article just seems too farfetched. I mean if there were 10,000 & 74% said the same then that would be tremendous. 216 not so much.
34. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
I don't think you get it. There's companies that get payed to do surveys. Those surveys usually are of about 1,000 people and are considered very accurate. I'm not talking about online surveys which are actually not considered accurate.
I'm not saying this is a scientific survey, but there's nothing wrong with the number of people polled.
35. dandirk (unregistered)
Well obviously I cannot professionally or properly confirm what a proper sample size is for polling... heck I am not a pollster and statistics person. I doubt most of the people posted are.
But according to this calculator http://www.surveysystem.com/ss
1067 is the proper sample size for the 100 million of total verizon subscribers. If you want 95% certainty with 3% margin of error. (%5 margin of error is 384)
So the sample size is low, but not insanely low.
74. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
well, yea it is insanely low then, its 80% less than what it should be for an accurate sample by your own example. :)
37. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3389; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
You keep saying 1000. 216 is too small. It's going against what you are saying. I will meet you half way. 1000 I guess is ok, NOT 216.

Damn we just have to fight about everything!
19. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
And yea, I'd call BS on it regardless of the OS. Again Taco BelGrungy I am not an android fanatic the way you are with iOS. I love android, but I am willing to try out nearly anything, and I have. Its my job to know every OS inside and out. Having been through them as I have, I prefer android. Its just better. Every OS has its + and -, for my taste the +'s of android outweight its -'s. When something better comes along, I will switch to that.
Google, Samsung, HTC, LG, Apple,MS nor any of them pay me a dime... I owe them no loyalty as they are not loyal to me... or to you.
You stay blind with your iFanatacism and see the world in absolutes.. ur either absolutely with you or no matter what they are against you.
The proof is in the fact that you try to blast me even when I defend apple.

@ Taco 50. I think you may have jumped the gun on remixfa. I will admit I have had my share of knee-jerk reactions to some of iOS fan comments too. But really, remix was only saying the sample was too small. Given a bigger sample size, that number could jump even higher and be a little more accurate. I really don't think he meant anything by it.
@remixfa. It your avatar from when Kermitt sang "It's not easy being green?". Either way, its cool.
75. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
no, lol close though
thats Sad Kermit singing Hurt. If you look it up on youtube theres a whole series of em. Love the visuals in that video.. makes me laugh :)
5. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3389; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
I polled 216 people also & they all said they are waiting for a dual-core LTE enabled Android device. So I guess what I am saying is that these polls a just plain silly. 216 people is not a big sample size, now if it were 10,000 people polled then that would work. I am never big in to polls, especially from such a small sample size!
8. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Who did you poll your dad and aunts?
10. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3389; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
taco50 please don't start. I was obviously making fun of this article. I can make a poll like this & have it come out 100% like I said before. My point is these polls are very misleading. Someone like yourself might actually believe it. 216 people is too small of a sample size. Where I work we have over 3500 people. I could easily poll 216 different people without even leaving the building.
18. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
No one does surveys with a sample size of 10,000. Sorry but that's unrealistic.
25. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
taco, those political surveys have around 1k to 5k people per survey but they are done daily and tracked over long periods to improve accuracy. Thier DoF are much smaller because of the constant sampling and therefore much more accurate than a single 200 person poll. And in this study not only did they try to surmise over all demand, they used the people in the study to give a general idea of satisfaction with the device. They dont say how many people of the 200 were on iOS, andriod or anything else. For all we know there could have been 20 iOS users in there and the rest were android.. or vice versa. They also dont mention which version of the iphone they have, which android phone, or anything.
You get all exited over these fluff articles that are ment to keep the site active. They dont mean anything. They have no merritt and they prove nothing for any camp. It is strictly iFodder and you are proving that point.. yet again.
28. christianqwerty (Posts: 456; Member since: 05 May 2011)
Taco theres no point in trying, There are way more pro android then pro ios people on phonearena. No matter what you sau, you will always get thumbed down, i thought you had some valid points,
31. christianqwerty (Posts: 456; Member since: 05 May 2011)
ahhh a thumb down because i spoke the truth!!!! i didnt say anything negative -___-

Haha exactly, but I'm the sheep. I guess being objective and stating facts makes you a sheep.
38. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
which objective facts did you present again?
40. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
such as the fact that this survey is totally in the realm of being reasonable and that a lot of surveys for the US population are in the realm of 1000 total participants. This was then backed up by dandirks comment. According to you two it's ridiculous that this is even posted and they would need to survey 10,000 VZW customers.
I'm questioning if you two understand that this isn't a survey of which phone is preferred by VZW users.
60. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
I love apple but the survey is to small. I think these numbers are actually accurate based on what i hear from most people but this survey isn't a good representation of that.
41. Owlet (Posts: 444; Member since: 21 Feb 2011)
Thumb down for you because you are wrong. Taco didn't say anything valid. There are also other people here that like and have apple, but they don't get thumbed down "no matter what they say". It's just taco :)
43. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3389; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
Owlet, it doesn't get more fair & truthful than that. Thank you!
45. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
total thumbs up for the real truth, straight from the owl's mouth! :)
59. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
fandroid cluster*****. What I said is totally valid. Remix suggested they should survey 20,000 customers. That's unreasonable
71. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 3389; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
taco50 when did remixfa suggest a survey of 20,000? I am reading his posts & I don't see it. I think you are making things up again. It's an iSheep relapse! lol
143. TOdoubleD (Posts: 110; Member since: 28 Mar 2011)
What's funny is people really believe these surveys are what will happen. IMO they've probably already lost sales by not releasing until October. Now obviously the die-hard Apple folks will wait. But people thinking about getting it may get tired of waiting. If the SGS2 performs well on cdma, it will surely steal some sales from people that are on the fence.
6. dandirk (unregistered)
Personally I thought it was stupid for any vzw customer to get the iphone 4. They should have waiting for 5.
I know there are people that just signed up and needed to select a phone, that makes sense, but upgraders???? Personally I would have waited the year (its will be a year right?). Maybe the 3.8mil are new subs?
Since Apple seems to release on a pretty regular schedule, you get a upgrade at every other release.
9. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
True but not everyone is on the blogs reading about this stuff. I think the iPhone 4 is still a good purchase. It's a great smartphone and will be supported by Apple for at least another 2 years.
29. christianqwerty (Posts: 456; Member since: 05 May 2011)
Iphone 4 will be cheaper after the new iphone, so i think its a good buy for people who want an iphone but dont want to pay a crazy ammount, my grandparents both got an iphone 3gs because it was alot cheaper than paying 240 after tax for the 4, and they dont really notice the difference!
11. DROIDX0430 (Posts: 409; Member since: 24 Nov 2010)
Impossible finding. Totally biased!!!!!!!!!!! 74% yeah right. I wasn't in the poll...What is this poll taken in front of a ATT storefront.... Thumbs up or down!!! Who cares about a iphone 5, 6 or 7. If the next iphone launches without LTE or dual core, then anything less is a pure waste of money.....like I said before
21. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
This is very standard for a sample size for a survey so I don't see how it's biased. Why is it biased because. You don't even comprehend the study anyway. It doesn't say 74% of VZW users are getting the iPhone. It says 74% of people who are planning on getting the iPhone are waiting to get the next one. So this wouldn't even apply to people who use android for example since they're not getting an iPhone.
Quit trolling on everything that's positive about Apple. People love Apple products and they sell like crazy. Get over it.
27. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
it would be a standard sample size if the cell phone population was at 10,000 at max. Even then its a bit small. It would have to be ran multiple times and tracked to show consistancy. This isnt standard for anything but Taco iFodder.. lol
42. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
so according to you for 100,000 million customers they'd need to survey 20,000 customers?! That's completely unrealistic that a survey would talk to 1 of 5 people that are on VZW.
46. wumberpeb (Posts: 380; Member since: 14 Mar 2011)
I gave you a thumbs up because I felt bad for your piss poor math....thought a nice thumbs up would at least get you to crack a smile
In other news, this survey simply says that 3 out of 4 people who want an iPhone are waiting for the iPhone5. Well no s**t! what's the point in spending $199 on a year old phone that's about to drop in price in about 8 weeks? If the Apple advertising machine wasn't one giant brain-drain, that number would be upwards of 95%
What are these other 26% thinking?
47. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
like normal taco, you lack reading comprehension.
I didnt say anything about 10000 people to make a valid survey. In fact I agreed WITH YOU about the political surveys only being 1000+ people. The real difference being that those political surveys are tracked daily and averaged out over a period of time to show trends and accuracy (which always say accurate to +/- 4% which is an 8% total spread). This survey was minisucule and a one shot deal. It didnt show any data about the people it surveyed, their current equipment or anything. Basically its a pointless survey and holds no more validity than saying i polled 200 peeps and here are my results.
Scientific data is ALWAYS repeatable, researchable, and able to be verified.. or it is useless and tossed out.... Much like this "survey". It has nothing to do with android vs iOS, and everything to do with its lack of value.
The only one trying to turn this into another troll-a-thon iOS vs Android debate is YOU.

and i never said 10-20k people in a poll, but u keep repeating it like i did. uh huh.

i just wanna hear you admit you were wrong.. say your sorry for being such a snot nosed jerk. something. uve been called out for lying and/or completely blowing things ive said in this thread (and a dozen others).
nope.. you just glaze over it and try to switch the subject. lol. gotta keep that flame war alive huh, taco?

You're right this isn't even news. I don't know why PA posted this. Android has more market share.
148. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
yea it does.. 48% to 19%. and spreading. :)
155. Rdio1 (unregistered)
48% isnt hard to do when every other phone on a wireless table is android.
"i have 30 pieces of crap on the table and one shiny turd, which would you like today?"

16. NeXoS (Posts: 277; Member since: 03 May 2011)
You call that a "small" study?
That's like calling a quark particle "small."
Here's a much more valid study:
Verizon fails to gain iPhone market share vs AT&T
Oops, my bad, it's not a study, it's THEIR REAL NUMBERS.
20. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
This has nothing to do with this article. In fact it reenforces this survey since the survey says most VZW users are waiting for the new iPhone to get the new one.
22. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Hey trolls calm down the survey doesn't say 74% of VZW users are getting an iPhone. It simply states people who are already planning on getting an iPhone are waiting for the new one which makes total sense because it's coming out very soon.
50. pete7625 (banned) (Posts: 86; Member since: 01 Jul 2010)
I see what you're saying taco. They could have asked 216 people who wanted iPhones or 10,000 people who want iPhones. MOST of them are gonna wait for the new one since it's almost here. That just makes sense. I think people are misreading the article.
23. iphone8lover (unregistered)
NeXos. You people out there in lala land would believe the sky were going to turn green if you received some sort of document relaying to the unknown. ATT has had the iphone since 2007, so course their numbers would be over Verizon's, since VW only had for about 7 months now. How do you know people are not in contracts and just can't jump to an iphone on VW? How do you know people aren't holding out for the iphone5...So the little news clip you read is biased...Everyone loves to hate on Verizon.....Read this fact... consumer report.org.
Did not recommend the iphone4.
Needs a bumper to receive a descent signal. mediocre user interface--hasn't changed much since 2007, very nice display, compact---left handed people might block the antennae design---so be careful....you pay for ALL of your APPS....stuck on safari, no flash....what else....
24. isuck (unregistered)
who cares, at the end of the day, ios peeps will love there os, android will love their os, and those people like me which like an excellant, refreshing alternative, will give windows a try. Wow, so far very impressed, would like a little more freedom, ability to download free mp3's, use various browsers, but otherwise it is not to overwhelming like android, and to communistic like ios. plus i get a choice of different models like android but with ios consistancy.
30. christianqwerty (Posts: 456; Member since: 05 May 2011)
Just about everyone here is a pro android user, if you dont like iphone then dont click on this article and start drama, geez.
