74% of polled Verizon subscribers who want to get an iPhone, are holding their horses for the next one

0. phoneArena 01 Aug 2011, 09:33 posted on

A relatively small sample of 216 carrier customers showed that the majority of Verizon subscribers (74%), who are planning to get an iPhone, are sniffing at the iPhone 4, and waiting for the imminent update, which should come in a month or two, if all rumors ring true...

You would think with useful articles like these that the iphone would be popular by now.

You posted here just to talk crap. If the survey said 74% of VZW users are getting android you'd be totally ok with this survey.

No he wouldn't remixfa is one of the most fair people on this site. He IS right about the sample size. He would say the same if it was about Android. I agree with him the sample size is too small to even count. 216 isn't even a half of a % of the total wireless customers in the US.

Do you two realize most political surveys for example have a sample size of about 1,000 people and that's for the entire country. This is pretty standard for a survey.

And remix is not even close to unbiased

Ok I will humor you taco50. STILL even 1000 is too small, but 1000 is more of an indicative number than the random 216. I don't ever remember a political survey of 1000. When I watch CNN or FOX News, most polls are done online & have 10,000 to 30,000 minimum! Most definitely not 1,000. C’mon even you have to agree that 216 is such a small number that this article just seems too farfetched. I mean if there were 10,000 & 74% said the same then that would be tremendous. 216 not so much.

I don't think you get it. There's companies that get payed to do surveys. Those surveys usually are of about 1,000 people and are considered very accurate. I'm not talking about online surveys which are actually not considered accurate.

I'm not saying this is a scientific survey, but there's nothing wrong with the number of people polled.

Well obviously I cannot professionally or properly confirm what a proper sample size is for polling... heck I am not a pollster and statistics person. I doubt most of the people posted are.

But according to this calculator http://www.surveysystem.com/sscalc.htm

1067 is the proper sample size for the 100 million of total verizon subscribers. If you want 95% certainty with 3% margin of error. (%5 margin of error is 384)

So the sample size is low, but not insanely low.

dandirk,
well, yea it is insanely low then, its 80% less than what it should be for an accurate sample by your own example. :)

You keep saying 1000. 216 is too small. It's going against what you are saying. I will meet you half way. 1000 I guess is ok, NOT 216.

Thank SAE

And yea, I'd call BS on it regardless of the OS. Again Taco BelGrungy I am not an android fanatic the way you are with iOS. I love android, but I am willing to try out nearly anything, and I have. Its my job to know every OS inside and out. Having been through them as I have, I prefer android. Its just better. Every OS has its + and -, for my taste the +'s of android outweight its -'s. When something better comes along, I will switch to that.

Google, Samsung, HTC, LG, Apple,MS nor any of them pay me a dime... I owe them no loyalty as they are not loyal to me... or to you.

You stay blind with your iFanatacism and see the world in absolutes.. ur either absolutely with you or no matter what they are against you.
The proof is in the fact that you try to blast me even when I defend apple.

@ Taco 50. I think you may have jumped the gun on remixfa. I will admit I have had my share of knee-jerk reactions to some of iOS fan comments too. But really, remix was only saying the sample was too small. Given a bigger sample size, that number could jump even higher and be a little more accurate. I really don't think he meant anything by it.

@remixfa. It your avatar from when Kermitt sang "It's not easy being green?". Either way, its cool.

I polled 216 people also & they all said they are waiting for a dual-core LTE enabled Android device. So I guess what I am saying is that these polls a just plain silly. 216 people is not a big sample size, now if it were 10,000 people polled then that would work. I am never big in to polls, especially from such a small sample size!

taco50 please don't start. I was obviously making fun of this article. I can make a poll like this & have it come out 100% like I said before. My point is these polls are very misleading. Someone like yourself might actually believe it. 216 people is too small of a sample size. Where I work we have over 3500 people. I could easily poll 216 different people without even leaving the building.

No one does surveys with a sample size of 10,000. Sorry but that's unrealistic.

taco, those political surveys have around 1k to 5k people per survey but they are done daily and tracked over long periods to improve accuracy. Thier DoF are much smaller because of the constant sampling and therefore much more accurate than a single 200 person poll. And in this study not only did they try to surmise over all demand, they used the people in the study to give a general idea of satisfaction with the device. They dont say how many people of the 200 were on iOS, andriod or anything else. For all we know there could have been 20 iOS users in there and the rest were android.. or vice versa. They also dont mention which version of the iphone they have, which android phone, or anything.

You get all exited over these fluff articles that are ment to keep the site active. They dont mean anything. They have no merritt and they prove nothing for any camp. It is strictly iFodder and you are proving that point.. yet again.

such as the fact that this survey is totally in the realm of being reasonable and that a lot of surveys for the US population are in the realm of 1000 total participants. This was then backed up by dandirks comment. According to you two it's ridiculous that this is even posted and they would need to survey 10,000 VZW customers.

I'm questioning if you two understand that this isn't a survey of which phone is preferred by VZW users.

I love apple but the survey is to small. I think these numbers are actually accurate based on what i hear from most people but this survey isn't a good representation of that.
