$539 will buy you a Wi-Fi only Motorola XOOM at Sam's Club

0. phoneArena posted on 04 Mar 2011, 12:35

Why pay for 3G/4G connectivity when you plan on using Wi-Fi only on your Motorola XOOM? Not only will you save by not paying for a data plan, but you can also knock a few bucks off the price of the tablet by paying $539 for the device at Sam's Club...

Price is huge, as is functionality and features. Until Nokia releases a MeeGo tablet, I'll take a Xoom or Galaxy Tab 10.1.

So is this a joke?

Tablets need to compete with netbooks and laptops, until I can pop in a blu-ray and store 200GB of lossless music, I'm not ready to commit. Okay the blu-ray thing is outrageous, but I should be able to transfer a blu-ray file quickly and enjoy the movie on the flight. HD storage and playback are essential.

Those solid state hard drives aren't going to drop in price that much that quickly. Luckily with most Android tablets you will have a USB port--just use a portable hard drive.

Tablets Vs netbooks--if you really look at all the hardware and whatnot you will see that tablets like the Xoom for ~$500 are rather reasonable. Try and find a netbook with a capacitive touch HD screen, solid state hard drive, CPU/GPU combo that can play 1080p easily & 3D HD games. . . there really aren't any, and a decent netbook is around $400.

As for the Xoom at $539. . .

$539 for the Xoom = $599 for the same level iPad 2

Xoom has a lot more RAM - iPad 2 is gimped with a very low amount of RAM (256 or 512--still unknown).

Add Apple's proprietary dongles for the iPad 2 $40-$80 - Xoom looks even less expensive.

Much better cameras in the Xoom, HD display, etc. . . Looking better all the time!

And the Xoom has an SD expansion = unlimited memory = priceless

Of course . . .
Honeycomb = priceless!! ;)

At that price the Xoom is a bargain compared to the iPad 2!

Why are you comparing Xoom to the iPad? No one brought up but you.

Too pricey. If they want to be competitive with the ipad2, they need to lower the xoom's wifi only price to $350 or $375. Now that would give Apple a run for their money.

ipad 2 is garbage if u buy it ur a fool xoom is way better then the ipad2

8. protozeloz posted on 04 Mar 2011, 19:30

I could only dream for that price to be true but we know the xoom seems to be good… now if Motorola where to keep the same name for their line they would have a better reputation to back them up

At least the XOOM has a great camera. From all speculation (including an article on Apple worshipper CNN) it'll be on a par with the iPod Touch.

you are paying $40 extra then ipad 2 because better display, more ram, usb/sd card port, multitasking, also mini hdmi cable is cheap (no need to spend $40 like apple hdmi cable)

FYI costco has the wifi 3g upgradable to 4g for 555 after activation rebate.. just sayin

If the price is true it'll be really affordable.
