5 free alternatives to the not-so-free-now Pushbullet app for Android

Android users are probably familiar with Pushbullet, which is an excellent piece of software to synchronize your smartphone and personal computer. Pushbullet has the ability to transfer files between your computer and Android device, send SMS messages from the desktop and view all your notifications right on the computer screen.

The app was free for a while, but nowadays, that's no longer the case. Pushbullet's free version is limited, and unlocking the full functionality costs five dollars per month. Unfortunately, the developers took a rather bullish approach to monetization and made the free version almost useless in the process. App makers tend to offer the essential functionality for free, and add optional, but very convenient paid features to convince users to splurge.
