As we’re nearing the 5-year anniversary of the original iPhone’s release here in the US, we can’t help but recall how much of a profound impact it made in the mobile landscape. Before its arrival, smartphones primarily consisted of portrait QWERTY devices...

REAL IPHONE FILLER IS GALAXY S2
28 million sold in 11 months still going strong,

IPHONE IS KILLED

Stop lying to yourself, I do not own a iproduct and I can tell you galaxy is not close to it. Yes, the galaxy sold compare to other phones, but compare that 28 million to all the iphone 4s or iphone 4 sales and it will look like a psp (75 million sold) to nintendo ds (150 million sold) it does not mean the psp sold bad, it just mean it is not a killer just like the galaxy towards the iphone.......Quick question guys I have the Galaxy Note for AT&T, when do i receive Ice Cream

GALAXY S III is the only competitor against the Iphone

All the down-voters are blind to the truth. In terms of sales, iPhone is still king.

That is indeed a great phone and now that has entered in the mid range segment and others won't stand a chance against it in Mid Range, but still that depends on the users, as for me i would take a SGS II as i don't have lumps of money to buy the New S3.
I find this phone to be the best in the Mid Range according to me..

There is, never was, and never will b an iPhone killer. The galaxy line,iPhone line r both top end devices, and appeal to their own sector of the tech crowd. The 4S sold over 37,000,000 phones in the 4th quarter alone, please explain how the galaxy which extremely well itself killed the iPhone.
58. doubler86 (Posts: 320; Member since: 26 Jan 2011)
It's easy, the 4 quarter is the biggest selling time of the year for phones first of all and the Galaxy S III hasn't been out that long. So if we count first week sales. iPhone 4s world launch sold 4 million, while the Galaxy S III sold 9 million before opening day in only a few countries.
Completely outselling the iPhone = the iPhone killer. I hoped this helped.

Those aren't even official numbers so lets wait and see. Also iPhone is coming out soon.
Regardless even if the SIII outsells the iPhone (first time that would happen) it won't kill the iPhone by any means.

When the iPhone sells more, it's ALL about sales. When it gets outsold, it turns into being about the phone itself, which somehow magically seems to be in the benefit of the iPhone regardless of the other device and it's functions. You only use "facts" that make your beloved Apple come out "on top". You have yet to post a logical comment..

its not going to be called the iPhone 5. it wouldnt make any sense to call it that considering the 4s is the fifth generation of iphone.

No I didn't help it was a dumb statement. U compared the galaxy s 3 to the 4S. You're comparing samsungs unreleased or barely released phone to apples 8 month old phone which has sold over 40,000,000 so far this year. Compare the gs2 to the 4S which has sold 3 times as much as the gs2, and the gs3 to the next iPhone dumb a$$. I hope that helped

And one more thing the iPhones 4 million was in America only
113. jroc74 (Posts: 6014; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
I dont understand the thumbs down.
You said it almost perfectly. That both have a target market. What's up with everybody wanting one thing to be the best? There are reasons why the PS3 is considered the best and why the 360 is too.
The years teams won the Super Bowl as an 8 seed....on paper and technically they werent the best team. But they got it done when it counted, the ball bounced their way, etc.
And why must one phone die for another to be a success? There is enough pie for at least 3 mobile OS's to be considered the best. And when you factor in preferences, pros n cons...there will never be 1 phone thats the best.

Well said, jroc.
I've said this before, but I have an Android (LG) and my wife has an iPhone. I like them both.
Both have pros and cons.
Some people just can't get over their strange sexual fetishes with their devices or their operating systems.

27,000,000 in 11 months vs 37,000,000 in 3 months. Yep it sure killed the iPhone. I guess it was the iPhones silver bullet huh lol

!!! RECIPE HOW TO KILL iPhone !!!
Need to do only one thing!
When iPhone 5 comes out, need to cut off iPhone 5 prices. In other words need to make iPhone 5 price realistic, not overpriced. After that, fashion victims and technologically incompetent people will lose interest in iPhone because only significantly increased price makes them think that iPhone is some kind of 'elite' device... After that iPhone's artificially inflated popularity-fashion bubble will pop!

200$ really isnt that painful when you see other phones starting at 250$-300$. especially the newer droid lines.
110. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5498; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Such situation isn't in all countries, in most countries iPhone 4S cost in one third more than other high-end smartphones.
For example at the moment in my country Samsung Galaxy S III is at the same price as iPhone 4S 16GB (both without any contract).
And Samsung Galaxy S II is cheaper than iPhone 4 8GB (also both without any contract).

"Another dumb statement"
Could you explain your statement?
147. Dj21o (Posts: 437; Member since: 19 May 2011)
You cannot be serious. I have owned 4 Android devices thinking the next one will be better than the next, giving Google a little more room to fix mistakes. Well they didn't. I have had GPS issues, battery life, overheating, apps crashing, reboots, the apps are poorly designed and the phones lag like a turd even with these cool dual core processors. I can go all day long. The iPhone has great stability and lasts more than one year. A family member of mine had the 3gs and it runs fine with no problems. I recently just got hired in at Sprint and I can't even tell you how many people I see EVERY SINGLE DAY switching from Android to the iPhone. Why not? Good battery life (even with emails pushing), the apps are approved from Apple so there isn't garbage/spam that users can get, Facetime (I have tried all on Android and they SUCK), and another favorite tweak of mine is group texting. The iPhone is a much more superior device than any Android phone. Take it from someone who has owned 4 of them. Why do you think EVERY SMARTPHONE ON THIS SITE is compared to the iPhone? Because the iPhone is the best. You pay $650.00 for a brand new iPhone. You pay $600 for a new Android. If you can't afford it then its on you, but I would recommend the iPhone to anyone. Even if you like to root your phone, the iPhone has way better tweaks with cydia IMO.
