Recording your phone conversations might prove to be a rather useful feature in many circumstances, and we are not even talking about ransom demands here, rather the plain old forgetting of a shopping list your wife mentioned on the phone and went into a tunnel just when you were wondering was it skim milk or 2%...

AllCallRecorder is still the best in my opinion, voice on both ends is very clear and paid version only removes the ad

LOL... simply root ur android device and get some nice custom rom with record option... boom... done! no need to pay for these apps which ALSO (most probably) record ur calls and send them to the developers...(or some part of it at least)

Personally, I prefer using TapeACall - no rooting, crystal clear audio recording, no limit on recording quantity/length and very straight forward. They even included a how-to video in app.

I've tried all of these so-called call recorder apps on my Verizon S4, but none worked. They all use the native API's that everyone else uses. I finally found Total Recall Call Recorder (Search for Total Recall on the play store) which although does require root, records calls beautifully - even when using my BT headset. Only thing I've found that's even close to this is Skvalex Call Recorder, but Total Recall has a better overall feature set.

Yes same problem i was faced, so i have searched in some forums and got this answer : Regarding Kit Kat 4.4.2, it breaks call recording due to an Audio Driver bug on many devices. then i have rooted my note 3 and now it works awesome.

No root needed, Boldbeast Call Recorder records calls perfectly in two directions for Galaxy S4 / Galaxy S3 in the USA/Canada market, for example SCH-I545(Verizon), SCH-I535(Verizon), SGH-I337(ATT), SGH-I747(ATT), SGH-I747M(Rogers), SPH-L710(Sprint), SGH-T999(T-Mobile), SCH-R530C(Cricket). This app is the only solution that works well without root. All other recorders ask you root these phones, otherwise they can only record your voice, the caller's voice can't be recorded.

Total Recall (along with every other call recording app) worked fine without a root on the Jellybean Note 3s I tested (AT&T, T-Mo, Verizon), but needed a root after a friend accidentally updated mine (T-Mo) to Kitkat. Supposedly there's a 'bug' in the update which requires a root to circumvent, which neither T-Mobile nor Samsung are willing or able to fix. They blame Google, and for all I know they may be right.
Total Recall also works without a root on the T-Mo Note 4 with Kitkat (haven't tested the other carriers), but required downloading Google Play Services in addition. There's no guarantee further updates won't disable call recording again however, and in a way a root cannot fix. So my advice is to test call recording in the store before you purchase, and avoid updating afterwards.
Keep in mind that root access gives an app access to EVERYTHING on your device. And while I have no reason NOT to trust the makers of Total Recall, that's still not the same as TRUSTING them, and I'd feel far more comfortable if they didn't have carte blanche to do whatever they want with my device. Honestly, you should be very wary of giving any app full access to your device, especially ones which record phone calls.
[P.S. Haven't updated my review of Total Recall on Google Play yet. A lot has changed since then, and other than some glaring UI issues, it's currently my weapon of choice.]
