4G speed test results are in, Verizon's LTE is fastest, but T-Mobile holds the fort in smartphone speeds

0. phoneArena posted on 14 Mar 2011, 05:13

A number of measurement in 13 major US cities resulted in Verizon's LTE reaching 6.44 Mbps on average with the laptop modems, and T-Mobile's 4G HSPA+ technology scoring the best in smartphone tests - 2.28 Mbps...

Well, I guess this is just a test of the times and places tested, but I've never had anything like some of the slow speeds they are showing for Sprint. My speeds are always on the high end of the Sprint speeds.

This data is complete bs. Everyone knows Phone arena is not a cridible source of information.

4. Galen20K posted on 14 Mar 2011, 06:10 8 2

Phonearena didn't conduct these tests genius, it was done by an independent company and just as PCWOrld is reporting the results so is PhoneArena. Ignorant.

To #2 above. If you took the time, you see these tests were done and posted by PC World on their site as the source. PhoneArena is simply using the info as a news story.

As good as the Verizon numbers are, I really doubt I'll buy a LTE phone. I'm scared at what they are going to charge a month.

Only an arm and a leg. Nothing that will hurt you too much.

17. beatlesfan posted on 14 Mar 2011, 23:28 1

I would be willing to bet and arm and a leg that Verizon keeps pricing the same for 4g smartphones as they currently have for 3g ones.

Thats exactly my point, theyll pawn off anything as "news". At least this is based off a seemingly credible source for once, pcworld, reading the full article had me wondering.

How much does verizon PAY phonearena and all cell sites. I live in Chicago and my Epic 4G gets way over 2.4 mps download ANYWHERE in the city. All my friends with USB modems or EVO's .

8. remixfa posted on 14 Mar 2011, 12:35

lol, my vibrant around jacksonville averages 3-6mb/s. only during severe peak does it ever dip below 2.5.. and thats 3g. my wife's G2 gets faster than that all the time.

first question i always ask is "did you go in to system/about phone and look to see the actual signal you were recieving"? HSDPA is not "4g", HSPA+ is. lol. oh well.

All of these speeds seem really slow...like 3G slow. With my evo, I get an average of 7mbps down in Salt Lake City with the highest being 12. In Atlanta I usually get between 3 to 5 with a max of 7. But 0.5 is just rediculous. How are they testing this?

10. gatordotcom posted on 14 Mar 2011, 13:00 2 2

I also live in salt lake and my download speeds, with the evo, is never less than 6mps.... so from these test I now present sprint with the fastest data speed award!

11. kcombs posted on 14 Mar 2011, 14:16 1

it's not true at all, I get 3.5mbps in Orlando on att with my iPhone 4. T-mobile gets less then what it shows in Orlando, and Sprint's Wimax gets 4mbps in Orlando.

I WONDER WHY DONT THEY HAVE LOS ANGELES? HERE IN LONG BEACH MY SPEEDS ARE FASTER, THE REPORTS ARE BOGUS, I AM USING SPEEDTEST.NET AND MY DOWNLOADS SPEEDS ARE 5Mbps & UPLOADS ARE 2Mbps ....

14. luis_lopez_351 posted on 14 Mar 2011, 16:56 1

I agree with jovy121. These test results are laughable.

18. ZayZay posted on 15 Mar 2011, 14:30

This is funny. I was just in Portland yesterday and was doing some testing for the 4G in one of our Sprint stores and was getting 5mps constantly. This is more believable if you were on the 3G but not 4G. I demand a retest.

19. NME (unregistered) posted on 19 Mar 2011, 13:34

Uhhhh....do you guys not understand what the word AVERAGE means ???? They tested the data in different parts of the city and got a cumulative AVERAGE from 20 locations in each city....learn to read people.....

20. JJ (unregistered) posted on 30 Mar 2011, 14:07

I am in Ogden Ut and i just got over 14.5 mbps on 5 seperate tests on my Galaxy S 4g.. T-Mobile Rocks!!!

21. jake (unregistered) posted on 04 May 2011, 00:14

My G2 can peak upto 9mbps :P

22. Jay (unregistered) posted on 06 May 2011, 17:12

Why is the phone that tested Verizon's 4G LTE network a Motorola Droid 2?

The Motorola Droid 2 IS A 3G PHONE! IT DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO 4G.

Me (Colorado Springs) and an XDA forum member in Washington state posted screen shots of our speedtest results reaching 47-50 Megabits per second. It's on XDA in an LG Revolution post called:

[Q] "Who noticed big 4G speed increase after VS910ZV6 update?"

24. Ben (unregistered) posted on 27 Sep 2011, 01:07

My MyTouch4g registered a 9.00mbps dl and a 1.49 upl in Colorado Springs
