One of the biggest announcements from CTIA this week was the HTC EVO 4G smartphone, which will use the Sprint 4G WiMAX service...

Dan Hesse has always been a good thing for Sprint. But I honestly think they need to make the switch to LTE...thing is, according to an article I read, the folks in charge of wireless standards haven't even said which technology will be considered 4G. So right now, WiMAX being 4G is just a marketing term. What happens if they determine WiMAX isn't 4G wireless and limit it to being an extention of Wifi? Then Sprint falsly advertises...same with LTE. I dunno...

its still sprints fourth generation of data, so it couldnt be false advertising, its all based on opinion.

And how is he looking out for his customers? By buying dead technology before it has a chance to die? Good one.

Because he's not married to what these dummies here are calling a dead tech. The only advantage LTE has over WiMax is more backing but they both will have the same speeds with similar upgrade paths. By the end of this year WiMax will have twice the markets of LTE, which isn't even here nor has any devices (aircard, MiFi or phones) to speak of along with not having the spectrum Clear has.

I doubt Verizon will have such a large footprint by the end of the year. This is just their way of getting back at Sprint's huge announcement of the EVO.

This article is about what Sprint CEO Dan Hesse has said, not Verizon.

Time to jump into Sprint and then after contract ends, jump into Verizon, lol
6. VZWtrainer (Posts: 50; Member since: 24 Jul 2008)
VZW has always stated that they will have 20 - 30 LTE markets by the end of 2010, this is not anything new.
8. remixfa (Posts: 13901; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
thats old news about VZW there scott. They have always stated they wanted 100 million peeps covered by the end of this year, which is roughly a 1/3rd of the population.

Whoap you said something that didnt praise sprint, -10 for you...what a bunch of mindless A holes...This is a lost room. Sprint fan boys all around....and it sounds like they are happy that Sprint is just lying down while Verizon and At&t build an empire on top of them. Sprint is being cheap about WiMax it was only a "ploy" to be the "1st" in 4g not the best in 4g and like Verizon always does they will walk all over them. This is Dan Hesse' last 4 years. He doesn't want to blow any more money before he retires and sprint goes under, hence Wimax. READ WHAT DAN SAID, THEY WANTED TO BE FIRST, LTE WILL BE BIGGER ARE YOU ALL STUPID??? DAN HESSE IS SAYING ITS GOING TO BE OBSOLETE, BUT BE THE FIRST TO BE OBSOLETE... GD
23. DonLouie (Posts: 594; Member since: 22 Dec 2008)
You are the stoopid one, Hesse never said anything about it being better just that it has more backing, hence bigger. Do some research on both and you'll see they have practically identical speeds. I see mostly vzw fans happy that what was already known and said, LTE is bigger and if needed will migrate, because of an open acknowledgement.
25. DonLouie (Posts: 594; Member since: 22 Dec 2008)
WiMax being in 60 markets this year is old news too.
7. sniperace (Posts: 95; Member since: 20 Aug 2009)
Sprint still has the best plans at the best price and the speed is just the cherry on top....HTC EVO Wi Max all the way!!
9. bossmann20 (Posts: 38; Member since: 23 Mar 2010)
who cares sprint already have 27 markets so far and Verizon "ZERO" and no phone!!!!!
12. remixfa (Posts: 13901; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
yea, but bossman, you got VZW,ATT,Tmo (eventually) and even Metro that are deploying LTE. It wont take too long for LTE to surpass and obliterate WiMaxx since Sprint is the only one using it. It could be another dead service like Nextel in the end. Both sprint and clearwire said they will probably eventually move to LTE once it takes over. Lets see what the world looks like in 2-3 years. Until then, you at least have enough time to enjoy the Evo on that 2 yr contract.. LOL
13. donjonson410 (Posts: 32; Member since: 11 Jan 2010)
Your right, by that time Clear will have upgraded their antenna's and deployed 2nd generation wimax capable of 100mb down.
14. numberonenygfan (Posts: 211; Member since: 19 Oct 2009)
Lol seriously man.. all these sprint customers are so dumb. Wiimax sucks its cheaper and sprint is still sucking wind. They may have their network up and running but first because its cheaper and they half ass everything. Please i beg these sprint customers to stay there.. they are as dumb and useless as the network they are on lmao
15. zuno gyakusatsu (Posts: 257; Member since: 16 Mar 2010)
right. and the idiots who get half ass service through att or verizon for double the price are smarter?
16. rhomaion (Posts: 187; Member since: 23 Sep 2009)
Three things I noted to myself with your post. #1 Sprint customers are able to use Verizon's coverage and vice versa. #2 WiMax is a completely different standard than LTE 4G and it duly noted to be more like Wi-Fi than a upgraded 3G cellular connection. #3 WiMax is spelled just like that and not "WiiMax" as you put it.
10. IHatePhones (Posts: 99; Member since: 12 Aug 2009)
But what is the 4G phone plan gonna cost? If Sprint continues with the great pricing, I'd imagine that trend will continue with 4G if they really want it to take off. I'm honestly kinda excited. Maybe I'll get service in my basement now....
17. rhomaion (Posts: 187; Member since: 23 Sep 2009)
In your basement? Nvm, I don't want to know.
20. PapaJay224 (Posts: 866; Member since: 08 Feb 2009)
I LOVE THAT EVERYTHING NEGATIVE TWORDS SPRINT OR ANYTHING NOT SUPPORTIVE OF DAN EFFING HESSE GETS A NEGATIVE POINT WHAT A BUNCH OF FINGER CROSSING HIPPIES. SPRINTZ TAKING A DUMP AND YOU WAISTING AWAY IN CONTRACT. GO PREPAID LIKE 1/3 OF THE REST OF THE CUSTOMERS DO UNTIL SPRINT COMPLETLY FAILS...CHURN CHURN CHURN...SPRINT SHOULD CHANGE THEIR NAME TO "BUTTER" ALL THEY DO IS CHURN!!!!
24. phonedemocracy (Posts: 98; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
Just breathe man. Its just a cell phone company. Breathe. In and out. In and out. Why are you so heavily involved in this, not being a Sprint customer? Do you feel that your point is very important in this internet battle of idiots? Keep breathing, in and out, in and out.
26. IHatePhones (Posts: 99; Member since: 12 Aug 2009)
And why do you want Sprint to fail? What do you have against Sprint? Did you have a bad experience once and now wish that everyone at Sprint looses their jobs because you missed a payment or three and had your service cut off? Maybe you had some dropped calls or weren't getting your text messages on time, and because of that you want thousands of people to be out of work and not able to support their family until they get another job... Hell maybe YOU lost your Sprint job recently, so you're a bitter sore loser who wants other to suffer. Sorry not a butter-churning-finger-crossing-hippie here just someone who doesn't want to hear about MORE people out of work.
28. PapaJay224 (Posts: 866; Member since: 08 Feb 2009)
Not likely...its just competition and copitition, you cant convince the world they're blind
