$30 million to be repaid to Florida customers by Verizon & Alltel
Don't you hate it when you crack open that monthly bill only to find it exorbitantly higher than normal because of random charges for ringtone downloads? Verizon and Alltel customers located in Florida may soon be getting some much needed money for unwanted charges such as ringtone, music, and horoscope services found on their bills. Customers may not have noticed them because they had unrecognizable names like “OpenMarket” and “M-Blox.” Attorney General Bill McCollum said that a settlement would offer a refund estimated at $24 million for Verizon and $6 million for Alltel customers that were affected. And that's no small chunk of change - $30 million total out of the bank – but it's only the right thing to do.
