A poll taken by an insurance company that insures mobile handsets, found that 23% of the the 2,471 Apple iPhone owners responding to a survey were sporting an iPhone with cracked glass; some didn't have the time to get the repair made, while for some it was a matter of money if they did not carry insurance for the device...

i know about 10 people who has cracked iphones

50. bigdawg23 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 21:37 4

Every I know that cracks their phone gets it fixed. Now as for damaged phones most of the ones I see are Samsung. Personally I dropped my Skyrocket once from 8" off a soft tile floor and the screen shattered, also same thing with my Note. I had my Vivid fall out of my pocket from 3 feet and shattered the screen. My buddy has had two SG3 broke in what phones generally do not. Meanwhile my iPhone 5 has been dropped twice with no issues, And no I am not accident prone, but work in a physically environment that has caused these issues.

Yesterday I talk to a girl with a cracked Note 2 screen. She was pissed because her phone was in a wallet flip case. Two of here credit cards did the damage. She said she slipped on the ice and her phone was in her jacket pocket. The cards get pressed harder than normal and broke it.

64. Nadr1212 posted on 10 Feb 2013, 00:39

heh, icrack... That's what she said!

68. darkkjedii posted on 10 Feb 2013, 06:22 2

Dude I guy at my job dropped his note 2, and completely shattered the screen. We were standing in his bus he's about my height 6'5", and was holding the phone at chin level. So from about 6' it took one bad fall...I'll admit it was a bad fall, and that was it.

77. Droiddoes posted on 10 Feb 2013, 10:53 1

This happened...

78. PapaSmurf posted on 10 Feb 2013, 11:00

If a phone falls from 6', there's no way it's going to survive.

79. darkkjedii posted on 10 Feb 2013, 12:54

Probably not. That's a high fall for something packing glass

82. tuminatr posted on 10 Feb 2013, 15:25

My understanding is that the Iphone up tel the Iphone 4 had Gorilla Glass that the 4 and 4s tried the same kind of glas put on supertrain windshields and has a much higer rate of cracking but less scratching. Also that they went back to Gorilla Glass with the Iphone 5

29. Johnnokia posted on 09 Feb 2013, 16:42 11 1

Its a design feature of the iphone at this stage, you either totally cover up that expensive 'premium' glass design with a rugged case or you add insurance to your contract.

7. Droid_X_Doug posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:15 8

I wonder if the other 77% have iCases on their phone? Just walking around, if I see someone using an iPhone, there seem to be a lot of them with cases. Don't know if it is 3 out of 4, but it is a lot.

19. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:52 4

I case mine, for both drop protection, and to keep resale value high. Think about it bro, even if it survives the drop scratches scuffs, and dings make the device less pretty, and drops resale value. People I don't care if its gorilla glass 4...case your device.

40. techtruth posted on 09 Feb 2013, 20:02 2 3

iphones are just meant to show off dude!!! a case just ruins that....

41. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 20:12 1

They're also by far the most valuable phones on the resale market, so it makes sense to keep them looking beautiful, and damage free. U conveniently forgot to mention that part.

43. -box- posted on 09 Feb 2013, 20:25 1 1

Not so much, which is why they have the stupid and purpose-defeating hole in the back to show the silly logo.

I wonder when apple will start making the logo on their mobile devices' logo glow.

20. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:57 1 4

I sold plenty of iPhones on Craigslist, and the most asked question was always does it have any damage.

59. gallitoking posted on 09 Feb 2013, 22:24 1 6

Gorilla glass 2

11. Berzerk000 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:24 9

Are you sure it has Gorilla Glass? It's not on Corning's official product list;

http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/full-products-list

The glass may be made by Corning, I just don't think it's officially Gorilla Glass.

32. Berzerk000 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 17:32 1

And I do understand that the page does say that some devices may be unlisted and still have Gorilla Glass, but you would think that if your product is on the iPhone, arguably the most popular and well known smartphone, you would want to list that on your product website.

Also, I have never seen any official statements from Apple about them using Gorilla Glass. I've seen them make statements about using glass from Corning, but not Gorilla Glass specifically. Until Apple or Corning makes a statement saying that the iPhone does in fact use Gorilla Glass, it's safe to say that it doesn't.

Otherwise, most people could see it as Apple's act at making their profit margins even larger at the cost of the consumer.

4. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:07 2 7

They do, but ask yourself what are people doing to crack them.

10. Nathan_ingx posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:21 8

For sure they didn't drop them to see if it can crack or break!

18. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:50 4

Lol I hope not.

8. tomn1ce posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:15 1 1

I must say that I've seen a lot of iphones with cracked screens. I guess some people don't want to pay for insurance or insurance isn't an option for them and they refuse to put a case and/or screen protector on their device....oh well, shame on them...

12. AamirSIII (banned) posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:25 5

after all these years of "GORILLA GLASS" sh*t, i have come to a conclusion that this is nothing but bs!

14. Desmund posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:33 1

Like someone said certain phones don't have it apparently my Atrix does and the only thing it's suffered is a crack, but the way it looks is a line through the middle of the phone and that's it. So it worked for me for these two years lol.

52. jroc74 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 21:41 1

Its not BS. Gorilla Glass was never said to be indestructible.

http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/

Highly damage resistant is like water resistant. Resistant is not the same as proof.

15. aco96 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:35 1 1

My 2,5 years old Nokia X6 has very tough screen. It's much more durable than my X7 (which is 6 months old, and has much more scratches)

16. Taters posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:37 5 1

Apple fans new slogan.

It just works, even with a cracked screen!

17. Joshing4fun posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:48 3

The other 77% have otterboxes on them. I can't remember the last time I saw an iPhone without an otterbox.

26. kozza3 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:26

good for otterbox? i really wish there were more options easily available in stores... :(

21. Tele7 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 14:58 1

Gorilla Glass is though against impacts coming from the front, scratches etc. but every mobile glass crack if you hit it on the sides (especially if it's not surrounded by metal or plastic)

22. ilia1986 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:04 2 1

And on other news: 100% of Android users reported that they have successfully customized their device to their liking.

:D

33. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 17:34 1 1

My iPhone is customized to my liking. Not many options so its easy to do. U know what I do like that I just discovered? U can go into the picture folders hit edit, and rearrange them. That kinda shocked me, due to the fact that iOS doesn't offer much customization.

35. tedkord posted on 09 Feb 2013, 18:25 9 1

Did you go for the rows of icons, or the rows of icons?

38. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 18:43 1 7

Ted grow up, at least sometime say something intelligent. No need for constant foolishness

61. tedkord posted on 09 Feb 2013, 23:27 3

It was a joke. Unbunch your panties.

56. BattleBrat posted on 09 Feb 2013, 22:00

66. gallitoking posted on 10 Feb 2013, 02:20 2 1

I go for the icons specailly when they are in rows...

67. ilia1986 posted on 10 Feb 2013, 03:34 3 1

But you can also place icons in columns! It's such a huge change!

Oh and did you know that you can have your standard lock screen and also... the standard lock screen? It's insane!

23. pkiran1996 posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:17 6 1

Every person I know who has had a problem with their iPhone has had either:
1. Cracked screen (from dropping it)
2. Faulty home button. (on all generations)

...And Apple fanboys dare to criticise companies like Samsung and LG for build quality.

31. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 17:30 1 1

What do I think would happen, or could happen to a Samsung or lg if u dropped?

65. JC557 posted on 10 Feb 2013, 01:22

I dropped my Droid Charge, HTC Thunderbolt, Droid 1 and Droid Inc. All survived with the most happening is chipping in the casing or the back cover popping off. Now if I were to forcibly throw the phones that would be a different story (which I did due to frustration of the 256MB RAM on the Droid 1). None of the phones had cases, same goes for my Rezound. The casing on the Nexus 4 may crack easily but I'm not sure about the screen which is what we're talking about here. I guess it depends on how it was assembled.

It's not that I'm clumsy but have a pretty rough occupation along with people rushing into my lab for results.

70. darkkjedii posted on 10 Feb 2013, 06:30

U need a case

60. 9thWonderful posted on 09 Feb 2013, 23:26 2 1

And every person you know is either a moron or has no sense of responsibility when it comes to taking care of their phones. I'm going to go w/the latter. If you dropped the phone and the screen cracked...mf'er...its bc you dropped it. Why is that the phones fault? Never had a home button issue or cracked screen. If these ppl are careless w/their phones take responsibility for that carelessness...don't blame the phone build quality. Learn how to handle a phone...smh

24. papss posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:18 1 1

I know two people that have cracked iphones

36. darkkjedii posted on 09 Feb 2013, 18:29 5

I know more than that.

27. rusticguy posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:29 1

>> 31% of those with a cracked screen said that they would not bother getting it fixed.

Pretty high number :)

28. Neopanther posted on 09 Feb 2013, 15:59 1

You wouldn't catch me with one of those phones if someone snuck one in my coffin at my funeral.

30. boosook posted on 09 Feb 2013, 17:17 1

The truth is that plastic is simply better for screens.
