10 fails found in Apple Maps

0. phoneArena posted on 20 Sep 2012, 09:41

It looks like iPhone and iPad owners aren't happy with the new Apple Maps, which replaces Google Maps in iOS 6. We cannot blame them, given the number of flaws that have been exposed already, such as the inaccurate or incomplete information and poorer imaging data when compared to Google's alternative...

Um, Nokia Maps are the best consumer-available mapping software in the world. The only better ones (arguably) are those available to the military and governments

How about that fail app icon showing you to drive off the 280 overpass?

36. lauremar posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:38 5 1

Um, I'm from Chicago, and this thing about the Sears tower on #5, (and it is called Willis Tower now by the way... APPLE) is sooooo laughable? And I am a little bit insulted! Apple with all that money in the world cannot this map thing right...

Apple fails once again.

40. The_Innovation posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:51 6 1

LOL!

Why are they so desperately trying to beat Google with what they're best known for? First Siri, now this? Common Apple. It's useless.

This is going to be like that antenna problem. Cook is going to grip the iPhone from the side and prove that all maps on all phones begin to act strange when you hold it in "that" position.

42. mattrfd posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:55 6

I don't use maps to much. The navigation has worked perfect so far.

49. skymitch89 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:19 4

You have to think that this is still in development, like Google Maps is almost always in development. Use Google Maps on a mobile device and look for London. I've done it and got results here in the US before I got the result for London, England (I think that it searches for the London that is closest to your location).

Now that Jobs is gone, Apple seems to be losing its touch. iOS 6 seems so far behind of android and barely starting to catch up with features just like windows phone. iOS 6 just doesnt seem exciting this year beacuse it didn't bring nothing new to the game.

64. gixxerrider311 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:47 1

I can see Apple saying: Ohh no your just not reading or seeing right lol and I'm a 4S owner but I can see the humor in all this.

66. breathlesstao posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:48 1

Y'know, teething problems are one thing - in alpha or beta software, but this thing doesn't even have that label snapped onto it, when it apparently should. But in this day and age, when there are so many (much better) alternatives, to come up with something so awful and unfinished, just so they can play their petty rivalry games and go against anything sensible... I guess that just speaks volumes of A's approach and priorities. I mean, really, they must've known that the time comes when they won't want to or can't have Google Maps on their devices anymore, yet they cough up something that looks like it's been glued together mere days before release. I'd honestly like to know what the heck they were thinking...if they were, at all.

67. gallitoking posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:51 8

I don't see the big deal, Google maps has flaws with pictures from 2007 or 2009 my house in CA shows an empty lot in Google maps.. is the real world guys were nothing is perfect..

76. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:14 2

but your house is still in its RIGHT FUL place......with apple it could make people go to different areas based on wrong information thinking it was the right place!

82. EclipseGSX posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:01 2

I didn't know your house was an important landmark like the Sears Tower... If your biggest complaint is the image is not correct, I still consider that a win for Google Maps

101. protozeloz posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:04

old pictures may be a non issue, at least driving directions are accurate on google maps

106. gallitoking posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:21

the point is that Google maps is not perfect either and thay have been around. what is their excuse.. At least Apple can say . they are new to the party..

112. EclipseGSX posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:59 2

No one said Google was perfect here, just years ahead of Apple. ilia1986 said it best in an earlier comment.

"When a company introduces a new feature and it's buggy - it's excusable.

When a company introduces a new feature which replaces an existing feature just because of the fact that the old feature was provided by that company's rival - so they decide to replace it because of their sheer egoism - and the new feature turns buggy - it's a blatant disregard for consumer needs."

This fail of an App is a giant slap in the face to any iOS user

99. protozeloz posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:03 2

yeah right, it screams half baked all over

http://gizmodo.com/5944897/17-people-apple-maps-has-already-horribly-misled

apple just redefined the half baked concept

104. MartyK posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:15

Well, at least you know you are in the right State, fooling with Apple Map, you'll be in the State of Washington looking for you house...hahahahahaha

68. sats.mine2k4 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:53 1

ishep will still follow these maps and reach the right destination.... What are you guys talking about....

69. devildlm1 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:53 5

Lol a guy was updating to iOS 6 (which he practically announced to everyone) in class and when class was over i asked him if he checked out maps yet just because I like to see what the competition has to offer. He opened maps for the first time and almost immediately said, "OMG this is so much better!". Meanwhile he literally just opened the app and zoomed in to our location. I always thought people were exaggerating when talking about ifans but I am convinced that he would buy a cow turd if it had the apple logo on it

72. cheeseaddict posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:10 1

epic fail..

74. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:11 2

this could seriously be a lawsuit! considering the fact that people use GPS maps to travel and get to locations........with this misinformation people could lose their way, spend dozens of money trying to figure out where they are, and in some cases....maybe even get hurt from going the wrong way!

77. omarr posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:24 3

i am an apple fan , but this is the most epic FAIL . Hope a fix soon

81. lauremar posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:01 5

yeah a fix will be out soon... it's called the google maps app that you can download, just like the youtube app google put up in apple app store.

85. omarr posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:08 2

Thanks

110. lauremar posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:54

Oh, and another simple solution to this is - DO NOT UPGRADE your iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S to iOS 6! Sorry iPhone 5 owners, wish I can say the same thing to y'all. You're stuck with a crappy map unless Apple comes to their senses and fix what was working perfectly in the first place...All these because of their big egos!

78. downphoenix posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:30 2

Do they still have that one regarding driving off a bridge, or did they fix that one at least?

79. Aeires (unregistered) posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:40 1

If Steve was still alive, this would not have went out the door. People would have been either fired or working double shifts so things like this wouldn't happen. Tim is a supply guy, not a visionary person like Steve was. Apple under Tim's guidance is only going to get worse, a lot of critical aspects have slipped and are getting worse. The overwhelming amount of iPhone5 leaks is a perfect example, that didn't happen in the Jobs era.

80. Savage posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:00 4

It's a good thing I didn't update to iOS 6.I'll wait till they bring the REAL Google Maps on the app store or fix their another,DAMN-USELESS-HALF-BAKED PRODUCT IN FUTURE UPDATES! iFans can go on saying that its new and gonna take time. Guess what? Apple isn't itself collecting the data! It's using someone else's, someone who has a bit of experience in that area.Apple knowingly puts user-experience to jeopardy partnering with less money-demanding partners. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ITS FUNCTIONALITY IS GONNA BE? Better than Google's? In maybe 15 years it can match Google's CURRENT features and by that time, Google would progress to Mars! Enough excuses people and especially Apple Fanatics. Those who still support Apple here can follow the map directions and reach Alaska instead of the Barista at the next block. I'm content with what Google offers me and let me tell you, It just works!!

84. lauremar posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:04 3

I have a quick fix for this... From your mobile browser, go tohttp://maps.google.com
suck it apple!

86. soshi posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:15 6

95. Mobile-X-Pert posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:49

Nokia bought Navteq, that's why they are the best now.

88. Sniggly posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:26 3

If Apple updates this quickly, it won't be a big problem.

However, if they wait almost a year to update it like they did with Siri, it will be a HUGE problem.

89. jibraihimi posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:28 1

Guess who's having a good laugh over here..........???? Andy Rubin and his team android must be enjoying this............ :)

114. EclipseGSX posted on 20 Sep 2012, 15:03 1

Yep, because of Apples arrogance, it is still a big F U to the iOS users who previously had at least a USABLE app before

96. rusticguy posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:49 3

Apple Maps == Shameless Arrogance.

107. abhijeit posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:32

Still dumb apple users will sell their kidneys and fight to defend this fatal flaw!!!! and they will despise nething else but their apple crap!!! dumb analysts from the US willl also not consider this as a problem, since its apple all da way!!! wat a sick bias world wid full of sick people!!! had dis been some other company, they'd hav ripped it apart!! but since its apple they ll love it even if has no screen and gets one kg heavier!!!

111. lauremar posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:57

You are looking at it wrong!!! This is what the earth looks like when you are looking at it in a BLACK Hole in outer space!!!

115. timtimity posted on 20 Sep 2012, 15:21

I still can't get my head around how has this even happened. I understand there can be snags and issues when a piece of software is released, but missing entire towns? It's not like they appear overnight and weren't there when the first data set was obtained. What data did TomTom supply Apple with and what did Apple then do with it? The maps and directions on my TomTom are perfect. Even Waze's CEO has criticised it.

116. Sniggly posted on 20 Sep 2012, 16:12

It actually makes sense guys! See, according to past Apple favoring users on the Site who I won't name, Google copied Apple with Now/Majel/their AI, which had been in development for three years. This means that Google had to invent a time machine and use it after Siri was developed to copy anything! Since Google had a time machine, it's only natural that Apple would have one too. Before the release of IOS 6, Apple must have traveled to the future to see if the 2012 apocalypse stories were true, and THEY WERE TRUE! So now Apple's maps have been updated to show the world as it will be post apocalypse, thus showing how truly forward thinking and innovative they really are!

Hail Apple!

125. bkb01 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 18:22 2

so thats why some maps are in black and white ...because of the APOCALYPSE:)

weird story man but it fits on apple

119. GeekMovement posted on 20 Sep 2012, 17:03

Apple iPhone users should just stick with Apple Maps because this suits them better. Google and Nokia can be reserved for the android and WP users.

122. timtimity posted on 20 Sep 2012, 17:19

Aldwych Station is shown in London. Fair enough. It only closed in 1994.

APPLE MAPS...IT JUST WORKS!!!..

138. maen555 posted on 23 Sep 2012, 09:35

127. rusticguy posted on 20 Sep 2012, 18:48

Well Apple is trying to be "diffreent" (being Unique) from others on Maps also like they did with when they dished out "Lightening". So these are not 10 failures but 10 UNIQUE features from Apple World :D
