10 fails found in Apple Maps

0. phoneArena posted on 20 Sep 2012, 09:41

It looks like iPhone and iPad owners aren't happy with the new Apple Maps, which replaces Google Maps in iOS 6. We cannot blame them, given the number of flaws that have been exposed already, such as the inaccurate or incomplete information and poorer imaging data when compared to Google's alternative...

Anyone living close to the destination the Apple map spots? Can you see if there is any 'apple' tree somewhere around the spot. :D

Explains the comment perfectly.

Yeah... talk about Apple who does not deliver unfinished-buggy products... right

They don't even have the decency like Google of putting a "beta" in the title

73. matt1q2aw3 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:11 14

Its because they are holding the phone wrong.

I actually really like the iPhone 5, but this isn't a very good thing for Apple.
:/ Hope they fix this.

This is horrible, like the article says, some errors are understandable but these are big issues that cannot be overlooked.

Lol i recommend apple to come and use Nokia Maps

128. whysoserious posted on 20 Sep 2012, 22:20 3

I foresee that the improvements will come to iPhone 5S, which they will claim as a major innovation for the next iPhone. Classic Apple.

I could already see it now, reports saying people had driven off cliffs and into lakes and blaming it on they're iPhone! "my iPhone told me to drive there so I did"

4. Nookie4u posted on 20 Sep 2012, 09:49 20 1

Now number 2: thats just plain ugly.

139. whysoserious posted on 23 Sep 2012, 12:12

iRay S. where are you now? Your beloved iOS needs you to defend it from this epic failure! For all the people here in PA, you are the only one who truly understands the greatness of iOS 6. Please enlighten us with your fanboyish and biased wisdom and tell us that this is not true!!!

5. raunak posted on 20 Sep 2012, 09:51 27 1

25. JC557 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:23 8 1

Apple should have made sure their replacement was mature enough before cutting ties with Google. Now they've left their users with an incomplete system.

47. haseebzahid posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:17

incomplete it should not have passed alpha testing forget about Closed beta and open Beta tests

70. Fallout09 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:58 1

Disagree.... I now see more users flocking back to using Google Maps after giving this a try; even though it Gmaps is no longer intergrated.

6. kcombs posted on 20 Sep 2012, 09:51 7 1

Google maps. Oh sorry too soon?

7. neutralguy posted on 20 Sep 2012, 09:52 14 1

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA nice try apple, you should have tried Nokia Maps like amazon did after ditching google maps. :))

8. darac posted on 20 Sep 2012, 09:52 2 2

"Ahh, i wonder how Apple would do that, with their superior, meticulous, almost religious devotion to perfection!"

11. techspace posted on 20 Sep 2012, 09:58 8

downloading google earth from the app store should solve this problem.....apple may take some time to fix these bugs and add new features/

12. timtimity posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:00 11 1

In Manchester, England it labels an area the Gay Village. I've got no issue with that as that's what the area is called, but (as far as I'm aware) it's not an official name for the area it's just what people call that area. Are maps allowed to label areas by what local residents call them or should they go by their official names?

118. -box- posted on 20 Sep 2012, 17:01

In that case it's time to rename cupertino to "Baristaville"

13. Wolvan posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:01 5 1

#5 on the list. Its not the "Sears" tower anymore anyway! Its now the "Willis" tower, not that anybody calls it that.

71. chebner posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:06 1

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if the building iMaps labeled as the Sears tower is actually the new location of Sears' HQs? Though if so, it is certainly known as the "Sears Tower".

Apple to planet Earth: You're showing it wrong.

18. CreeDiddy posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:11 19

21. ilia1986 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:16 18 1

No.

When a company introduces a new feature and it's buggy - it's excusable.

When a company introduces a new feature which replaces an existing feature just because of the fact that the old feature was provided by that company's rival - so they decide to replace it because of their sheer egoism - and the new feature turns buggy - it's a blatant disregard for consumer needs.

75. chebner posted on 20 Sep 2012, 12:11 4

Especially considering how Apple puts itself on such a high pedestal. According to Apple these types of failures are common to other companies but with Apple, "It just works.". What a joke!

109. EclipseGSX posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:53 1

Very well said, I was thinking the same exact thing with all these iFan excuses

93. protozeloz posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:46

132. haseebzahid posted on 21 Sep 2012, 03:18

Apple to Users: You're looking at it wrong

22. Mxyzptlk posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:19 3 18

This article is overdoing it. These locations aren't even in the US. Google Maps wasn't perfect when it first started and it still isn't entirely accurate today.

If you ask me this article is only stirring the pot and not really doing much other than blasting the new maps app.

23. ilia1986 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:20 12 3

Is the US somehow more important than the rest of the world, taco?

29. darkkjedii posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:28 2 12

Nope it's not, but do u honestly expect apple not to address these issues with future updates and fix it. C'mon... Apple released a brand new from the ground up map app, with no prior experience in the field, they will get it rite with a few updates and it'll b all good.

41. ilia1986 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:54 7

So.. why replace a winning horse?

44. Mxyzptlk posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:09 1 6

Using reasoning doesn't help unfortunately. I don't understand why a good comment got thumbed down.

57. ilia1986 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:34 5 1

You use reasoning as much as a monkey uses a calculator.

134. Mxyzptlk posted on 21 Sep 2012, 09:13 1

cool story bro

63. Whateverman posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:45 3

Have you read your comment? I think you would even thumb it down yourself if you re-read it.

Not only we're you wrong when you said "these locations aren't even in the US", but you flipped off every one of you fellow iOS users outside of the US. You didn't really think people would LIKE that, did you?

62. blade19 posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:41 1

Actually it's not new. It based off of Tom Tom's maps "engine". They are helping Apple with it. but most people know that already.

94. protozeloz posted on 20 Sep 2012, 13:47

a really half cooked one :/

102. MartyK posted on 20 Sep 2012, 14:09

Until then, you boys will just have to deal with being lost..hahahaha

126. Jobes posted on 20 Sep 2012, 18:26

Hardly from the ground up, it was purchased rebranded and slapped into iOS6

133. haseebzahid posted on 21 Sep 2012, 03:20

so what is the point of launching something that is totally pathetic and not even complete NOT launching a stable and correct stuff shows how incompetent Apple is becoming now they should have taken atlest 4 years to refine it

24. timtimity posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:21 5 1

In Manchester it's showing Granada Studios as an attraction. It closed down 11 years ago.

27. darkkjedii posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:24 1 6

Issue's with apples mapping system should absolutely b expected at this time with it being brand new. My evo 4g from when I was with sprint had several issues with google maps, updates to care of it. Any Samsung android user on Tmobile that had the vibrant will be able to tell u how google maps failed to work properly for quite sometime, but updates took care of it. When google maps first launched or when I first remember using it on the my touch 3G it wasn't too hot, but updates took care of it. My point, and the keyword here is updates. Apple is very good about updates to their platform, and u can bet they will have maps purring along n due time. Google maps rules but remember it had its infancy too, but it grew up.

51. wassup posted on 20 Sep 2012, 11:22 1

The thing is, they had Google Maps, which is arguably the best mapping solution (beats Nokia Maps due to its integration with Google Now).
Why change that? plus the lack of street view is a bummer for me. My dad needs that loads when he travels to London to visit me or for some business to know what a location looks like.
Fly-over, whilst sound perfect in the Apple Announcement, fail horribly.
Look at this link.http://gizmodo.com/5944672/apples-new-3d-maps-turn-your-world-into-an-apocalyptic-horror-show?post=52813413

Just hope they allow Google Maps on the App Store so that my dad can get back to using it properly, otherwise a whole lot of people are going to be pissed. (search twitter for examples)

120. -box- posted on 20 Sep 2012, 17:07

While I agree that google maps work well with google now (for those that have it), Nokia's maps link directly from not only the Local Search, Public Transport, and Drive apps, but also the Bing search app (which, of course, can be voice-controlled), as well as offering the excellent City Lens functionality. All Nokia needs is a StreetView type program and google will have nothing on them. Plus, offline availability is wonderful, no worries about network connectivity or data consumption!

Well survival of the fittest is about to kick in after a few Apple users start driving off bridges and crashing into buildings.
