NFC (Near Field communication) is a wireless technology with very limited range of approximately 4” that allows electronic devices to communicate with each other. It can be used for transferring data, such as pictures or music and can provide easy access to all sorts of information. NFC can be used as an alternative to smart cards, allowing you to access your home, office etc. The level of security NFC offers is very high, making it suitable for payments by storing your credit card information.
There are a lot of possible applications, but they can be divided into four basic groups.
- Applications that don’t require confirmation, such as picking a web address from a poster or basic ticketing and even giving you access to your home.
- Some applications require confirmation. Be it a password or a simple “ok” button. Payments, secure access etc.
- It can be used to connect two devices to one another for transferring files or syncing.
- Some NFC devices may offer wide variety of functions. When connected to another one, it enables you to look through its functions before using a particular one.
NFC provides access to information wherever and whenever you are. For example, you can download train schedules or buy a bus ticket the second you get on it. Overall, is very similar to Bluetooth technology, but with higher security and a lot more applications. NFC is very user friendly and convenient for everyday operations.
