HTML

Short for Hyper Text Markup Language, which is the authoring software language, used to create web pages on the World Wide Web. It is used to structure and format web documents as well as to specify links to other files on the World Wide Web. HTML documents are written in plain text. To define the documents structure and layout, HTML uses a variety of tags and attributes that enclose the text. Tags are also used to specify hypertext links (containing URL or address), which allow users to be directed to other Web pages by only a click of the mouse on either an image or word(s). HTML was originally defined by Tim Berners-Lee, while working at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva.
