HSCSD

Acronym for High Speed Circuit Switched Data, which is a high performance data transmission technology for GSM networks. It enables data transmission speeds of up to 57.6kbit/s by adding together, consecutive time slots, each of which is capable of supporting rate of 14.4kbit/s. HSCSD allows the combination of up to four time slots. An asymmetrical service can be offered where, for instance, one time slot is allocated for the uplink and the others are aggregated for the downlink. HSCSD establishes a permanent connection to the data network, which makes it suitable for videoconferencing and multimedia transmission.
