Encryption

The process of converting data from a plaintext to an encoded form, called ciphertext in order to ensure that it is accessible only for the intended recipient. To decipher the data back to its original form, the recipient must have the corresponding decryption key or program. Two basic types of Encryption are commonly used – Symmetric Encryption (a single secret key is used for both encryption and decryption) and Asymmetric Encryption (a pair of keys is used -- one for Encryption and one for Decryption).
