ESN

Acronym for Electronic Serial Number, which is a unique identification number, assigned to each cellular phone by its manufacturer for security purposes. The ESN identifies the particular phone to the cellular system when placing or receiving calls. It is validated by the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO) with each call. The ESN is a 32-bit number, consisting of three parts: the manufacturer code, a reserved area and a manufacturer- assigned serial number.
