Baud Rate

Measure for data transmission speed, which shows the number of signals transmitted per second. It is roughly equivalent to bits per second (bps) and the two terms are often confused. There is a difference as bits per second shows the actual number of bits transmitted, while baud rate shows the number of signals transmitted and each signal can represent more than one bit of data. Baud rate and bps coincide only for low rates. The measure was named after the French engineer J.M.E. Baudot and initially was used to measure the speed of telegraph transmissions.
