Nokia introduces new GPS module for mid-range cellphones

Nokia has introduced a new GPS module, called LD-3W. The module is compatible with a wide range of the company's mid-tier Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones, including the S60 series, the 6230i and 6280. LD-3W is sold separately and is installed through an automatic settings configuration tool. The GPS module will enable users to determine their location to within five meters and see the easiest route to their destination on a Wayfinder or Telmap digital map. The Nokia GPS Module LD-3W is expected to be commercially available in the first quarter of 2006 for the estimated price of ˆ110 ($132). The GPS module as well as the suite of navigation services, going with it will be showcased at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, next week.
