iPhone on other U.S. carriers within the next year? This article contains unofficial information.

advertisment:
Piper Jaffray's sr. research analyst, Gene Munster, is making some bold predictions about Apple. After all, the company is not only a main street darling, but is well loved on Wall Street as well. Amongst 14 "unanswered questions" relating to the Cupertino firm is the remaining life of its exclusivity deal with AT&T over the iconic touchscreen device. What the Wall Street stock picker found was that the iPhone has a dramatically higher market share in France where they have a multi-carrier arrangement, than in the rest of the world. In the land of berets and the Eiffel Tower, Apple has a commanding 40% share while on the rest of the planet it is about 15%. Munster says that this is the result of having to sell more units to keep two pipelines full vs. only one pipeline that needs tending to with the exclusivity model. That's a valid argument. But there are others who simply feel that Apple is just going to jump ship to Verizon.

Verizon's President, Denny Strigle, has been making nice to the iPhone verbally while his firm strives to get its 4G network functional by early 2010. AT&T, where the iPhone currently hangs its shingle, has been in talks with Apple to extend the exclusivity period through 2011. While many U.S. cellphone users love the iPhone, a recent poll showed that the one complaint owners of the phone have is with the AT&T network.

I don't think that it would be fair for AT&T to be able to extend their exclusivity deal with Apple for the iPhone, while they HOG Verizon's BB Storm 2 as well. If Apple does decide to extend the deal. I mean, I could care less if iPhone came to Verizon or not, I am just arguing that it's not fair that AT&T gets their cake and eat someone else's as well. VZW BB Storm 2 and Sprint Palm Pre FTW! :]

i know, verizon was stuck with a buggy phone at first and now, a new one comes out, and att wants a piece of that glory. if apple says yes to this contract thing, we probably wont see it on verizons network ever...

I'm sorry if you guys are all in favor of this crap that exclusivity deal are not "fair", but what it comes down to is business. These are companies that are in to make money from products and services they sell. There is nothing wrong for a company to have exclusive rights with another one because they paid for it.

It is like saying you want to only fly on Boeing planes, but your favorite airline doesn't use Boeing jets. Then, you get mad because your favorite airline doesn't use Boeing, so you start blaming other airlines for their greed and hogging all the Boeing Jets in the world. Then you think you are "forced" to use a different airline just to fly on a Boeing. Companies make contract deals. It is as simnple as that.

Stop being so butt-hurt over exclusive rights. Most companies have exclusivities.

so i guess its a matter of survival. everyone for theselves, if a company wants a iphone, no, make the agreement longer. the other company is getting a new phone. sell it for yourself. att will take it all out until the end

greedy also... att is really greedy, iphone is basiclly the phone keeping them in buisness, without it, they fail. because of that, they want to keep their best phone as long as they can, and get some of the best phones from verizon so they can get more buisness. yet when verizon want to get the iphone, "Lets EXTEND THIS CONTRACT APPLE" basiclly like that

On top of that Money talks i'm sure apple would stay with AT&T for the right price.

That "right price" would have to astronomical in order for Apple to make up what they could potentially gain by opening their phone(s) up to other companies. I agree with the dude in the article. Mark my words, by this time next year, other cell companies here in the states will have the iPhone or something like it.

I agree, it will never happen, but I can dream. And to iberrystorm, I just went with the BB Tour over a pre. I really like the software but the current hardware doesnt do much for me, particularly the keyboard. And having somewhat large hands, it just wasnt comfortable hold being so small.

I wanna see that survey about the reason why they complain about the iphone is only b/c of AT&T network..that is bogus if any body would be complaining about AT&T it's there prices on features, rate plan, and anything that has to do with a $ sign. (coming from a former att employee)

or maybe how the consumer buys a iphone but cant do sms, or other stuff like that. or maybe how they keep dropped calls using at&ts service. also the rest of the stuff you said.

yea, that's cause you work for att, of course they'll complain about that when they already have the device. Most people, however, don't have att but they don't want to switch. So most people's complaints is that it is only on att, hence the statement.

ATT is utter Junk and Most iPhone users I know hate their Carrier. Really it should be an option on All US carriers if Apple really wants Money and Marketshare. An Exclusivity Contract is only a Drop in a Bucket compared to widespread availablity.

Really they need to come to their senses and I think they only wanted the Exclusivity to create Buzz and Interest in the little product of theirs. That being said I really would never care to own an iPhone of any kind.

Hold up... Look at what you are saying! Out of everything you are saying, you think only AT&T is greedy?? Honestly, get over yourself and your love for your beloved carrier. Quite being a fanboy, eh?

If what you are saying is true, AT&T being greedy, then all the other companies are greedy too. Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon etc... Companies and businesses exist to make money. Are you a business owner?? Apparently not. If you own a business, then you are in it to make money. You are also in it to have as many customers as possible. Sound familiar?

You Dumb-Asses don't get business, do you? Eliminate as much competition as possible (Exclusive Contracts), gain as many customers as possible (superior products) and make as much profit (profit is money, for those who do not understand) as possible.Get off your dumpy soap boxes and quit bitching about businesses that bring you conveniences and services into your lives.

Ha! iPHone is Anything BUT superior. It's not even a TRUE smartphone, it doesn't have a REAL OS to speak of. Only a Program Launcher.

Quit being an ATT fanboy suck! I think your name is a bit of a Contradiction. True story!

Yeah, real true story. Try again. I fault AT&T with their flaws, as with any other carrier and their flaws. However, you and others refuse to stop riding your Carrier's Dick. Get off of it, and read what I posted. You are so quick to think that I am referring to "superior" as the iPhone. Let's talk about Verizon and their superior products (Storm). Sprint's (Pre). T-Mobile (G-1). Every Carrier has superior products. Superior to Dumb Phones.

I was making an example of a business model, and you ignorantly think I am referring to just AT&T and the iPhone. Go back, take some time and read carefully and try to understand what I am saying. It's not that hard.

You think everyone is an AT&T Fanboy and love the iPhone. Some do, some don't. But please, get off your Carrier's Cock and get a life.

"lets talk about verizon and thier superior product (storm)" i got a quick question about that. att is going to get the storm 2, and so is verizon. if the storm was the superior phone and att get the new and improved version, whats verizons superior product then? touch pro 2, all carriers have that!

Hey fanboy is not us is you to seem to not understand that is VZW that is over due with their 90's EVDO network no matter how many towers they have in each city can't compete with HSPA, is not bcause att is cause their network so no wonder why VZW is rushing their LTE, dude get over with try a search on wikepidea and compare and you'll se why almost 80% of carriers in the world choose 3gsm, and by the way i'll love to see the iphone on their crappy network that can't even handle a simultanuosly a data with a voice call, not even mention a video call...!!!
