Cell phones can definitely be a life saver during a natural disaster – it can literally change the fate of your situation. One very lucky woman who was trapped under rubble can thank her reliable cell phone for saving her life. After the powerful earthquake struck Haiti, the Canadian woman had to do something unconventional to get herself rescued. Instead of a phone call, she sent a text message to the Foreign Affairs Department in Ottawa – which is approximately 3,000 miles away. Thankfully the distressed message was received and “relayed to Canadian diplomats back in Haiti” – thus commencing the search for the missing woman. In the end, the woman was “safe” after being rescued – but there was no further information regarding her condition. It’s a small happy ending to the tragic events that have unfolded in the area – you’ll never know when your mobile phone might come in handy; especially in life and death situations.
