Windows Mobile 7 on track for Q1 release to OEMs, Q3 release to public? This article contains unofficial information.

advertisment:
ZDNet Taiwan is reporting that Windows Mobile 7 will be ready to be sent to OEMs in the first quarter of 2010 for testing. If everything goes well, a public launch will take place in the third quarter of 2010, about a year after the release of Windows Mobile 6.5. The OS is facing declining market share as Android has become increasingly popular-especially now that the 2.0 build has been released to very good reviews on the Motorola DROID. As a result, the guys in Redmond have decided to step up the action and the "Maldives" program is sent to the OEMs, seeking feedback and suggestions from them. As we have reported, some screen shots have already appeared to give us an idea of what the interface will look like.

According to the report, the biggest difference between the current Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7 is that the latter supports capacitive touch. Yes, the HTC HD2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 does have a capacitive touchscreen and does have multi-touch functions, but only in certain file executions like Office Documents, web browsing and e-mail. With Windows Mobile 7, all functions will be able to support multi-touch.

I know most ppl really don't care about WinMo at this point and you certainly cannot blame them, but I am excited for Windows Mobile 7! I don't know what it is but I am anxious to see what Microsoft is going to bring to the fold. Go Redmond!

It will be exciting to see what they can bring. They have the perfect opportunity to revitalize their OS if they can make some things happen.

right i agree with you. looking at the successes and failures of what the other OS have been doing should have given microsoft something to work with. i just hope that its not some 2 bit apple / android platform knock off. winmo users want some action too. i mean windows 7 on the desk/ laptop wasnt ground breaking but it was a major improvement to xp and vista. and besides. if it (winmo 7) does suck the htc superstars will fix it

I think its waste of time comparing Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7 as the features of Windows Mobile 7 is not yet announced. There is ample of time for Windows Mobile 7 to enter the market. I would say rather wasting time waiting for Windows Mobile 7, you can now use Windows Mobile 6.5 and check the amazing features and experience the best.
