Will T-Mobile release updates to Android 2.0 for all of their handsets?

We now know that the first handset to run Android 2.0, the Motorola DROID, is hitting the shelves on 6 November through Verizon Wireless. The announcement, however, has raised certain questions relating to the future of all cell phones based on previous versions of the operating system. According to information from AndroidandMe, T-Mobile is in talks with Google about such software updates for their devices, the latest of which, the Motorola CLIQ was released just yesterday. As we have already reported, its quite likely that owners of the handset get an update directly to version 2.0 and not 1.6 as previously expected. This is, however, just a rumor and everything depends on Motorola, because the CLIQ utilizes the manufacturer´s proprietary MOTOBLUR interface, not the standard that comes with the operating system.

advertisment:
The T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile myTouch 3G stand a fair chance of getting updated to the latest Android version, although certain technical difficulties have been mentioned to prevent the carrier from being able to release the necessary patch right away. It´s anybody´s guess if this is just a matter of marketing strategy, meaning T-Mobile does not really intend to release updates for them, fearing this would hamper the sales of their latest Android-based devices.

T-Mobile´s fourth Android cell phone, the Samsung Behold II rolls out on 18 November. It has not been mentioned really, which probably means it will either run Android 2.0 straight away or an update will fllow shortly after.

We remind you all this information is unofficial, so fingers crossed that all Android-based handsets released by T-Mobile to date will get their updates to OS version 2.0.

I dont believe the updated version will be available to everyone as the agreement between Google and Verizon Wireless gave exclusive rights to the platform to latter company. No too sure about it but I think that's how the agreement worked out! :)

There's no way that Android 2.0 is totally exclusive to Verizon, the only "exclusive" possibility is that Verizon get's to have it first and had Google's help in getting it ready, and the other carriers' phones will follow with updates
