As expected, Microsoft announced the updated 6.1 version of the Windows Mobile operating system. As we’ve previously noted, we are not enthusiastic, as the upgrade doesn’t bring much improvements. The good news is that many manufacturers will allow the customers to update their phones, to take advantage of the new features.
Microsoft also announced that the pocket version of Internet Explorer will be updated with support for H.264, Flash and Silverlight, for “desktop-grade Web browsing”. The first phone to utilize the enhanced IE is expected to launch before the end of 2008.
