It’s been now 150 years that the Boucheron jewelry house, based in Paris, works in the area of exclusive jewelry, watches and even perfumes. Thanks to Vertu, they’re now going for the luxurious mobile phone market. Usually, the French offer jewel ornamented standard phones like the Signature. For this anniversary however, the designers from Vertu have cooked something different.

The Vertu Boucheron 150 is made of solid gold, shaped as a jewel, and the keyboard is made of sapphire crystal. According to the manufacturers, 2200 hours of work are needed in order to produce just one unit (1000 for shaping, 700 for polishing by hand and another 500 for assembling by hand). The phone comes in a wooden box, incorporating the same jewel motives, made (most probably also by hand) by the Swiss house Reuge. There still isn’t any confirmed information on the price, but the source mentions that it’s going to be over $30 000, and rumors go even further – about $1.5 million.

Looks like someone took a blackberry pearl, ran it through the garbage disposal, and covered it with gold. A solid gold phone with sapphire buttons, that sucker's gotta be heavy.

For 1.5M and it being hand-built, you betcha they can put a CDMA radio in it. I'm going to have them wire up a w315 phone as its brains.

Verizon would take the gold out of it and replace it with silver, but still sell it for the gold price.

Good god,... i hope Verizon NEVER puts this phone out on the market. As 'wswanson' said, VZW loves their GOLD price with their SILVER phones. (anyone got a 'bronze analogy for this?.... go with it now)

LOL. Asurion.... yeah right. You would have to take out an insurance policy from a real insurance company. The conversation will go something like this:

"Yeah.... state farm... I umm, well I purchased a really cool cell phone... uh huh, that's right a cell phone. It's net value was $100k... yeah I know that sounds rediculous, but it was an investment. It is made of solid gold and saphire so the 'value' will appreciate over time. I would like to take out an insurance policy for my phone. What will that cost me. $4000 a year... ok... Add it to my house and car. Thanks!"
