Verizon's new Android phone is Incredible?

The cellphone world has done some incredible things lately. After the impressive release of the DROID, it looks like Verizon is about to launch something incredible once again. While a few weeks ago we told you about the HTC Incredible coming to Verizon,  Droid Developers was able to get their hands on a unit. It looks like we are closer to the HTC Incredible joining Big Red's Android lineup. With a 3.7 inch AMOLED display, the screen appears similar to the one found on the Nexus One. The 5MP camera has two circles near it, most likely for an LED flash and a light sensor and the back of the device is plastic in metallic red while the processor runs at 850MHz.

As far as the software goes, the Incredible will have the Sense UI over Android 2.1. The device will launch with multi-touch although we are not sure that this means it will support pinch to zoom in the browser. 11 home pages can be made with a way to look at all 11 at once using an iris style view. When Droid Developers got their hands on the phone, it was responsive. One possible problem was that the phone had only 71MB on it which could be a sign of limited internal memory. The site went on by saying that a device named Incredible should have a speedier processor. It might be really too early to start making these comments about the phone. We still have no launch date, no pricing info and any of the specs could change by the time of launch. We still might have the opportunity to say "That's Incredible" yet.

Looks like verizon's kicking ass with all these high end device iam shocked was not like this a few years ago, guess they are listeining to there customers. Wonder if they will even need the iphone now would seem pointless at this point go vzw. Still waiting for something from sprint to even match the imagio or beat it with there own device oh well guess thats life.

850mhz..there are at least 3 more handsets that r clocked with snapdragon 1ghz cpu's..what gives?..71mb.my iphone 3gs has 256mb

71MB of internal memory? Haha, sounds like something Nokia would do. Oh, and Verizon too if you can all remember what they did with the HTC Touch Pro.

Thanks stupid, I didn't know that to begin with. I really thought after all these years owning cell phones that manufacturers have arbitrary amounts of memory installed. Hence the whole "something Nokia would do" comment as in the amount of useless available memory left on the N97. Are you really this dumb??

Verizon didnt do ANYTHING to the HTC touch pro 2 or the Incredible or any phone . Since when has VZW made the phones or requested limited specs?

There were several Sprint smartphones that when they made their debut with Verizon (the original Touch Pro is one for sure), they landed with lower specs on them than what they were on Sprint. Now making a transition from GSM to CDMA is more complicated than just slapping a different antenna on a phone, and if you're going to skin a non-smartphone with your own OS, you might want different specs on it, but with a PDA running windows mobile, it should be easy to just grab the Sprint model and go. So was it VZW or HTC that decided to skimp out on parts? We probably won't know.

From what I understand Verizon in the past has limited the specs on a number of phones. Take for example my Motorola Q; I can only use VZ Nav, no other app I download can use the GPS chip. Not sure if this is the case with the up and coming Incredible, but I read it and experienced it.

On another note, I am hoping these are just prelim specs as this phone would not compete in todays market. Vzw is supposed to support the Nexus One in early Spring, some are saying April, so where would the Incredible fit with the Droid, Droid Eris, Omnia 2, etc. Processor is decent, just a step above the Omnia 2, which has gotten decent marks. I've tested the Omnia 2 out and like it myself.

I'm not really waiting for the supreme phone to come out, I just want something with great HW specs and can be upgraded in the future, that's the way smartphones are going recently. SW always can be changed, one way or another, but HW can't. So the Nexus, for me, is the sh!t, HW wise. But I would prefer the Sense UI on top of it instead of Native Google, just my preference. I really dig the Sense UI....best UI out there right now, IMO, with SPB mobile shell 3.5 (for windows) in a close 2nd.

All I know is I'll have a tough choice come time to upgrade my Q; with the Droid out, the Incredible on it's way, the Nexus on it's way to VZW...lots of choices out there and coming for Verizon, something we at Verizon are definitely not used to.

Man Verizon is gonna stop the competition..

AT&T can not sit back any longer with their iPhone and expect to win customers.

With the droid, the nexus and now something like the nexus running sense UI on 2.1 Android is a serious competitor to the iPhone, and if apple doesn not release something awesome soon, they will lose to Android. Android is getting really good.


I think we can say sprint is gonna lose alot of customers with this, and T-mobiles new plans, phones and speed of 3G update. I am a Sprint customer and hate their phone selection, and Verizon's is awesome, plus their pricing is going down.



I think Verizon should consider buying out Sprint sometime in the near future....Same technology..Who knows??



AT&; and Apple's commercials suck now compared to Verizon, and hats off to Verizon for beating the competition.

Except Sprint and Verizon are going different ways on 4G. There's no benefit to Verizon to shell out cash for Sprint. Sorry.

Verizon's getting cheap*er*, but they're still at least $20 more a month than Sprint for less features.
I think everyone is jumping the gun regarding Sprint's phone lineup this year. They haven't even announced what smart phones they're getting this year yet, and everyone is faulting them because they don't have anything. Little patience maybe? Verizon's always been known for more advertisement than Sprint (hence the higher cost all around) and there's still several trade show's coming up for them to make an announcement.
Last year, Sprint released 4 feature phones (Pre, Pixi, Moment, Hero) that did very well. I think counting Sprint out in the first month of the year is a definite underestimation. Not to mention, has anyone considered that Sprint very well may be getting this phone as well? Sprint and Verizon both share the new Curves, the Hero, and the Pre and Pixi (even if Verizon's are updated).
Just my two cents.

none of those 4 phones sold well. look at percentage of android browsing and those two are the very bottom. and it is well documented how poorly the two Palm devices sold. and you are correct on Sprint, as well as T-Mo, being cheaper. but look at VZW, and even AT&T, subscriber adds over last couple years when Sprint has been 30-40 cheaper. Sprint has been killed. So now that the price is ONLY $20 then it expect VZW and AT&T to add even more ex-Sprint customers. People have shown price is not the most important thing.

In all honesty you will prolly never see VZW and Sprint having the same price. Basic economics. Brand perception. Imagine walking into liquor store and buying a bottle of scotch. Two bottles are both labeled 15 year but one is $40 and the other is $60. While there will always be a market for the bargain shopper many people will think "The $60 MUST be better, it cost more!" and therefore will buy it. Hence while VZW and AT&T will never be Sprint and T-Mo cheaper.

thats true sprint and verizons 4G are different so their is no point for verizon to buy them
Who cares that the year just started, Verizon, tmobile and AT&T are announcing new phones, what does the year turning from 09 to 10 have to do with releasing phones.
Every other company has been releasing hot new smartphones, and sprint doesn't even have rumors for one
Big deal they had 4 phones last year, almost all of them are going to be on other carriers.
it will take at least 2 months for sprint to release a new phone that is even close to the competition if they plan on staying in the game.

Sprint has, repeat has 4G so it would be more likely the premier phones may have 4G later this year.... Iphone4G, the first 4G Android, Palm4G......only time will tell!!!

Oh and Sprint is #3 and Boost is #1 they continue to drive the industry (thanks to Sprint lower plan prices and the Iphone prices dropped how many times to stay competative) Sprint does that not VZW or AT&T oops or T-mo....

DJBASS, you really are the dumbest ever. Lets see, iPhone 4g? Yes. On Sprint? NO. Apple is smarter than to release their iPhone on a small network like Sprint. The first 4G Android will most likely be on VZW as they will start releasing their LTE Network later this year. Who cares about Palm anymore? Their Pre wasn't that great and Palm is going to die soon. Sprint will die very soon. I hate you so much I wanna kill you.
