Verizon has a second Motorola Android device coming after the Droid. Code named the Calgary, this is actually a name that was used for the Droid very early in the device's life. Now the Motorola Calgary represents a new model and BGR's tipsters have given the green light for the story to be revealed. The phone will have the BLUR UI to push all of your social networking messages to your home page. The hardware include 3 touch sensitive Android keys, an optical joystick, physical QWERTY keyboard and a 3MP camera. Other features include Wi-Fi, GPS, digital magnetometer and a 3.5mm audio jack. BGR's source says the OS runs smoothly and is responsive. No price range was mentioned, but Big Red might be able to get this out in time for the holiday shopping season in the fourth quarter. Another handset for you Verizon customers to think hard about?

Ok so don't get me wrong, I think it's AWESOME that Verizon's phone line up is getting a heck of a boost. However, this looks like Motorola outsourced it to Fisher Price. I'm not certain what "demographic" they'll be targetting, but I hope they make it either more sleek or at least add some pizzaz to it.

...ultimately, I just think it's kinda ugly.

Yeah, it's a little hard to look at. Hopefully this isn't the final hardware revision.

Agreed. Put some style and class in these. I am sure this will be great, but it looks horrid.

This is clearly early development hardware. Based on the Droid's older images vs newer this must be close to how this handset will look. I think that it will hold its place in the Verizon line up though it is not for me. I like the droid looks aside (it is not all bad i have to say.). I see this thing being the Env3 of the androids hitting Verizon. I also expect this to trend to all handsets soon. It was made clear when the wireless companies first started making mobile internet so widely available. They plan on making your service more expensive through making all these phone internet capable. I wish i could tell with the coming of 4G networks if the use of VOIP and Internet only phones will make it to the show. I can only expect the carriers to drop old expensive outdated voice hardware for new highspeed tech and VOIP phones where the customers are paying for only internet connections.

No one wants ANdroid BECAUSE no one knows what it is! In fact, no one realizes that their is an OS on a phone! VZW's software was always the thing that held back their phone's potenial, but there is more to the iPhone than it's Apple based software...

As for this phone, it looks better than the Droid to me. Hopefully this will not require the overly exspensive and uneeded data plan for PDA's. You should not have to pay more for internet on a phoen than you do at home and not even get half of the experience.

looks like it will target the lower priced crowd. Since this is motorola i thought the calgary was supposed to resemble the old razor type keyboard, what happened to that? the original calgary pictures were pretty cool, kind of looked like a cross between the t-mobile sidekick and the razor, but i guess not! Droid for me still

i like this phone's look better than the droid's look. the keyboard looks better on the Calgary, the keys look better... the only thing i don't like is the specs of this phone... the screen looks smaller and the 3 mp camera is a turn off...

I hope the final product looks more like the renderings we saw way back when. Truth is, I don't know if I want to get te Droid or wait for the Hero to come out on VZW. I am not an early adapter and I guess the hands on reviews and time will tell.

Not a great looking phone, except for the keyboard which looks decent. The original prototype/render's keyboard looked great but not terribly usable, this one looks like it might be very easy to use. The Droid didn't change significantly from the prototype, which doesn't bode well for the future style of this phone. At least the Droid has a nice look to it, so there's one phone in this shape that should be nice

I'm gonna take a wild guess at that and say DUH! Android phones are built around web. Kind of like the pre's Web OS but not as internet driven... so if you buy a web based phone (pretty much anything android), expect to pay for data.

You can bet your booties that this will require $30 data package. Android syncs with google servers. You can't get past thestartup screen on an android device without logging into your google account. All PDA's, or smart phones, or whatever you want to call them, require $30 data. This is no different. Blackberry requires you to have a data package, even though the software doesn't force you to input an email address, whereas android does. Verizon doesn't make money off handsets, they actually lose money by subsidizing handsets. They make their money from data. If they didn't require this device to have data, it wouldn't exist.

you guys are funny, this is not smartphone. I got a confirmation email from verizon(droid) and it looks like a postcard. But it says "You signed up for this email because you think you need a new smartphone. But you don't need a smartphone, you need a supergenius in your pocket." does this sound like it's going to be a smartphone? i might be wrong, but i belive it's a feature phone.

How about for everything else BUT the internet? Some people want a physical keybaord, no data plan and no cheap ass LG phones! Oh yeah - and no Windows, Blackberry or VZW OS!!!

If you don't want the internet dont get an internet based phone. I don't understand people that get upset that you need a data plan for a smartphone. Its like buying a corvette and asking them to only put a 4 cylinder engine in it because you dont want to drive fast. Just doesn't make sense!

BS. No one sets out to buy a phone for the internet. Practically all phones have internet capability and it is NOT the priority on these phones. We get upset because some of us want the hot phone with all features EXCEPT for the internet. Why? Internet on a phone (my opinion) is a waste of time. The screens are too small to be useful.

Just because a phones has internet does not mean that we have to be charged for it. These phones do other things but the phone netwrk is not needed to use them so they can't charge for them. You example was not good. We want the Vette, but we just don't want to be forced to buy the after market rims and service plan for the rim that we don't want!
