Verizon to roll out 4G LTE in 20-30 markets during the second half of 2010 This article contains unofficial information.

advertisment:
Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam told those attending or listening in to a conference call that Big Red would have started to roll out its 4G LTE services in 20-30 markets by the second half of next year. Nationwide build-out would be targeted for completion by late 2013 to early 2014. The Long Term Evolution service will be the 4G network that will supplement and eventually replace the current CDMA system and is expected to be compatible with similar LTE services being developed at AT&T and MetroPCS. Average data speed will be between 8-12 Mbps. At the conference call, Verizon disclosed that all of their LTE devices will have swappable SIM cards. The carrier will have certification requirements above the minimum, which basically means that the swappable SIM cards will not be usable in devices not certified by Big Red.

In other Verizon news, the networker said that it wants to get into the online app store business in a much larger way than it currently does. Verizon revealed that it will hold an "application developer's conference" some time this summer. CEO Mc Adam said that Verizon will, "...open up the Verizon Wireless devices to all the thousands and thousands of apps you see on the web today." That would add to the company's currently small market share of the increasingly growing total of applications sold in online stores.

Sprints 4g is called wiimax, from what i understand they are the only company moving to this platform, at&t and verizon wireless are moving to LTE....sounds to me like sprint has made yet another stupid decision

WOW we've got some fan boys in the house. The only legit reason really to go with VZW is for their coverage map. Other than that, you're paying for a over rated and a over priced company. Papa Jay is just another person that just knows the basics of communications. If he was a bit smarter, he would understand that the first data session on the xohm network was held a year and a half ago... and that was only testing. He would also know that xohm is partially made by a company that probably has one of their processors in your computer... INTEL. Other companies might have your email account, GOOGLE, and others might make your phone, MOTOROLA, SAMSUNG, NOKIA. It's more than just SPRINT that's putting all this together

ummm, the only legit reason to go to vzw is their coverage map. which means they're superior cell service? So basicly you pay cause you get more. That seems logical to me. Not to mention sprint has had the lowest prices out of vzw and att for years yet for years they have still had the highest disconnects..... that alone should say something.

So how often do you travel? Are you in a different state at least every week? A lot of people would say no. Most people stay in town and only travel far distances several times a year. Practically you're spending about $20 more with VZW than sprint for comparable service.

That's all good buddy, and I love being singled out, because that means my comments effect you, which also means you like Sprints half a$$ ideas to invest and spark company interests in a technology that's going no where. Now over here at exhibit "PDpaiste" lets take this time to reference case #, "your an idiot". Hd DVD versus bluRay, plenty of respectable companies were involved in it, Toshiba, Sony, Microsoft just to name the obvious. But there had to be some competition in the industry, otherwise monopoly right? So its a race to build the best...squandling (not a word) around to all the big investors selling your idea about how your technology works better than everyone else's, right? well it isn't a race to be the first, its to be the best. Well Sprints Idea of business has failed from the day they started an folks like me have been wondering why they are still around, so lets just say there reputation is a lot less credible compared to the competition, then, lets take basic business ethics (you are keeping up right?) and take into account that Sprint doesn't have any money, wait it gets better...THEN...Lets take into account that, oh yeah that's right, Sprint sold a majority of the Towers last year, so their Network could flop at the flick of an economic switch. NOW, lets look at track records, VZW has been the leading in 3G technology for the last 5 years, VZW has no debts, VZW owns or is owning a majority of the towers in the U.S. AND furthermore VZW is partners with the largest wireless provider in Europe, which there's no need to mention the sheer size of VZW and Vodaphone put together is an Investment Guarantee....So you tell me based on some first rate half a$$ test that Sprint and its "blind" investors are running with "WhyMax?" still hold any sort of candle to Verizon sheer monstrosity of a Network and limitless funding and world renown respect? I'm putting my money on VZW, again was that WhyMax? err...ok

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!! SPRINT IS THE BEST. Yes that was making fun of you. Sprint is better than Verizon. Why even compare the two though? Good question when the Sprint data network is so far ahead of VZW truth is everyone is talking about LTE, you have no idea. It hasn't even launched, talk about it when it hits for now Sprint has 4G, think about it.

Also I would just like to say that I can't stand reading PapJay224's comments, go back to school. You can't even spell and I think that I speak for everyone when I say that it sucks to read your stupid comments, when they aren't backed up by anything and you have to essentially guess what you are trying to say, because of your crappy sentence structure and your inability to spell. Have your mom proof it or something, thanks.

I travel at least once a month, and I'm a college student. And my parents go around the U.S every week. So Verizon is the only logical choice for my family. The cost is easy to ignore for the ease of use and availability of service almost everywhere.

I can't wait for LTE. That is faster data speeds than I have for my home internet. Depending on where the cap comes in at I can get rid of my home internet. I do a little bit of online gaming so the cap will make a difference. Beyond that I just read a lot online. Don't do videos or downloading.

Yes, AT&T is going LTE, which of course is the logical technology to go with. The only company that kept CDMA alive in the U.S. was VZW, and with them going the GSM evolution route, there isn't much keeping its advancement alive. There are rumors of an iPhone going to VZW, but so what? It's really not that impressive of a phone, unless you're a 13 year old who cares more about looking cool than having a device that is actually user-friendly. That is funny though how we've been talking about how great our open-initiative is going to be... Yet, if it is still even alive for LTE, apparently, you'll have to have an entirely different SIM card, or they won't even allow the open devices on the LTE network yet, you'll probably have to suck it up with CDMA still... Ahhh, Big Red, when will you learn that being the monopoly on all your services and devices isn't the way to go... Oh well, at least we're being a bit flexible and opening up new apps... But we'll probably charge for it still.

Imagine the MIFI on LTE? OMG!! There's a good chance VZW will become the primary ISP in most areas! Of course, not until it completely rolls out. The possibilities....

You guys are ridiculous. I have had every phone carrier, and Sprint is by far the best that I have ever owned. They do a poor job of advertising, so ignorant people are always dogging on them. Truth be told they are above and beyond in data service, and their service is way better that ATT and extremely comparable to VZW.

Key word there "theman" is comparible...not better. You get what you pay for, You want a premium car you need to put in premium gas, if you want to own a Sprinto (haha get it, like pinto, hehe) than you can put in water'd down 3rd world break me down and disconnect me gas.

It's comparAble. This sight only bugs me, because I'm pretty sure most people are illiterate. I said extremely comparable just to be nice. The truth is that I have had Verizon and Sprint. I travel all around the U.S. and even at the same price I would choose SPRINT way over Verizon and no contest over ATT and T-Mobile. Which are jokes, minus the i-phone there is no reason to choose ATT.
