Verizon to offer Palm Pre early in 2010 and that's official

advertisment:
Verizon reported second quarter earnings today, but they also made a big announcement. Early in 2010, the Palm Pre will be offered by Big Red. The carrier dropped this bombshell in a conference call with analysts. Currently, Sprint has the exclusive rights to sell the handset in the U.S. The Pre was launched amid great fanfare back on June 6th and for the most part, has lived up to its designation as the chief competitor to Apple's iPhone despite some questions about build quality.

As for Verizon's second quarter, as previously reported the company added 1.1 million wireless customers during the three months to bring the total to 87.7 million wireless customers. The churn rate, at 1.01%, was even lower than AT&T's 1.05% rate reported last week. Big Red saw wireless data revenue steam ahead by 33%. Profit margin in the division rose to 28.8% Due to the Alltel acquisition (those customers spend less on average), the average Verion Wireless customer spent $51.10 on monthly service in the quarter, off .8% from last year.

Well, Verizon customers, 2010 can't come soon enough?

Thank you Phonearena, THANK YOU for actually READING the news release before posting. All of these other sites are saying Verizon Wireless' profit dropped 21% when it was actually Verizon Communications, the Home service side.

It's amazing how many professional organizations don't know the difference between the two.

Sprint does not have a Year. Exclusivity runs out 12/31/09. Verizon launches Palm Pre 01/17/09 and is currently a tentative date. Palm has already purchasing chipsets from us for the Verizon version, which we are still currently making because of demand for the current version on Sprint.

Phone was was supposed to have a 6 month exclusive always, It was supposed to be from July 10th release. 6 month exclusivity was to run out 01/10/09, Which is why Verizon was going to release the phone on 01/17/09, A week after as they can not start shipping product or collatoral or dummy/mock phones till it runs out. But Sprint wanted the phone released prior to the I-Phone 3GS, so contract was negotiated to be earlier, but then end on 12/31/09. Not sure now if Verizon is going to keep that 01/17/09 date, but might as well I would think.

I just thought of something else. I know were supposed to do some chipsets for the ATT Palm Pre, but we haven't even started yet. (And we usually start building at least 6 months prior), I wonder if Apple is making them ride with them out till the end of June when Apple's contract ends? I'm just guessing/speculating at this point. I'll repost I guess once we start working on the ATT version. Then we'll see how long it takes before they throw it on shelves. But that's my guess. Back to work. :(

Just saying that you work for them does not mean anything.

you would be retarded to think Sprint would be the only one to get it within a year, first of all sprint can't afford to buy a long enough exclusive to keep it from Verizon, and niether can Palm. Palm is pissing in their pants waiting till it hits on Red....

I think you asked me this in another post. As HTC is one of the manfacturers out of quite a few we don't really deal with too much. We handle overflow on them on rare circumstances. They like to keep everything in house and handle they're own chipsets for everything. Where for example Apple/Samsung/LG/RIM will have source parts from 7-8. HTC might use, 2-3 total. So I don't have the info unfortunetly. Sorry guy.

And because you make chips you speak truth, who's to say you aren't talking out your butt like you accuse phoneguy of?

Cause I make them for the devices your asking/questioning about. Almost like clockwork 6 months later the carrier releases phones after the manafacturer installs. I have plenty of contrbuiting factors to the site and have given info to this site so that way everyone is in the "know". We manafacture silicon chipsets that vendors use and they give timelines for production of communication products. Our team would not have even started on the VZ version of the Pre if it's was over a year out and it started back in Mid-May. The transistors for the VZW version have a little more heat tolerance than the current Sprint version however, starting August 3rd, which I believe is a Monday both Sprint and VZW transistors will be the same.

Your contributing factors based on reading your prior posts are mosly negative and almost rude for no apparent reasoning with little to no information to supply what people come here for, almost as making at seem you come here to argue. I don't understand why you say such things.

So phoneguy saying there is documentation is just as valid because, like you, he said so. I would characterize your post in Sprint spots just as insulting but that's besides the point, I never said my post are gospel just get so tired of you all acting like the carrier has nothing going for it
