Verizon releases three internet data packages for prepaid customers

Along with four new handsets (the HTC DROID ERIS, LG Chocolate Touch, RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 and Samsung Convoy), earlier today Verizon announced new internet data packages for prepaid customers available, valid for various periods of time, i.e. daily, weekly and monthly deals. Take a look at the offer below:

Daily – $15 for 75 MB

Weekly – $30 for 250 MB

Monthly – $50 for 500 MB

According to the carrier, they are especially suitable for people who use mobile internet rarely or irregularly. Mobile Broadband prepaid will come with a modem, the Verizon Wireless USB7600 that will allow customers to utilize 3G connectivity on their notebooks and the device rolls out November 16. So, what do you think? Are these great value packages?

Virgin USA gives you 1gb for 30 days on a faster network for data. VZW pricing is terrible.

Agreed. Plus, at $50 for 500mb, why not just sign a contract, pay an extra $10 a month, and get 10 times the amount of internet. I really wonder just how well they will do with this. Heck, it is cheaper to pay Hotel WiFi fees than for this, and you will have no limits.

This straight up sucks.

technically, most light users will never need that. and i cant tell you how many times ive had customers scared off because they only needed something while on the road for like 6 months, so they obviously didnt want a 2 yr contract. it will sell for business peeps that just check email and facebook n crap like that. weve been beggin big carriers to do this for a while now u cry about it. what did you expect? 5g for 50 bux prepaid? lol.. you want service everywere you pay a premium. you want cheap service.. you get it somewhere else. if your abusiness man, you need it to work everywhere.

some people actually dont have tetherable phones, or need to keep their phone free for calls while online. or maybe they have service w/ another carrier but know that VZW is really the only place u want to buy an aircard for travel. (theres a map for that lol) there is a market, albeit a smaller one. if u dont want it, dont get it. geesh.

Alright, I can buy some of that. You are right, an aircard would be the best from Verizon, but my original question was really, how well will this do for them? I guess any revenue is better than none, but I really don't think this will play out well for Verizon. But then again, maybe I'm wrong. That is known to happen.

Of course they want you to sign a contract. not a fan of virgin or any MVNO at that. hell, even Virgin doesn't own Virgin anymore. Look at all of the others who are no longer here, Helio, Ampd, ESPN mobile, Disney, Bratz, Voce, Kajeet, Speak-Out, MCI Worldcomm, etc etc etc.

The point I make is simple, when you need services go to the provider direct and not his middleman.

how can it not work. all it is is hey we will let you do this for this much. dont think to much extra money has to be spent on stuff that they own an is in place to work weather they do this or not. oh but by the way wow that is a lot of cash for 500 mb. dont watch any streaming media i guess.

You can buy an aircard full retail or off ebay or wherever and sign up for the regular 5GB plan with no contract. This prepay service is for 1. Temporary users 2. those who are scared and refuse to sign a contract 3. People who want to try it out but don't plan on using it very much.

Verizon would love you to to get a small plan, realize how quickly your MBs fly away while doing facebook and youtube, then switch to the normal 5GB $59.99 plan. Its like people who start out on tracfone then get tired of spending $50 a week in minute cards so they finally switch to a monthly plan because they eventually realize its a better deal, even though at first they got the tracfone "Just for emergencies". People don't like to admit to themselves how much they will really use something, because they are trying to rationalize being cheapskates.
