Verizon cuts pricing on BlackBerry Storm to $49.99

Clearing inventory just before introducing the BlackBerry Storm 2, Verizon made another deep cut in the price of the original model. The first touchscreen 'Berry is now just $49.99 at Verizon, with a two-year contract. In addition, if you buy the 9530, you can get a second BlackBerry free, choosing from a list that includes the 8830 World Edition, Curve 8330 in silver or pink, Pearl Flip 8230, 8703e or you can just grab a second Storm.

For those of you who have been under a rock for a few months, the BlackBerry Storm 2 is expected to launch in October and just made an appearance in Verizon's inventory system as we reported. The 9550 is expected to feature Wi-Fi, an improved SurePress typing system that may or may not use Piezo technology, and a 5.0 BlackBerry OS build.

I'd say that if you're looking for a new BB phone, spring for the BB tour and then get the VZW Netbook for free! :) (At least thats the current promo in the West Area)

I wouldnt say that VZW is cutting the price of the Storm to make room for a storm 2. They cut the price on every blackberry, not just the storm.

More than likely to justify it's actions with out looking so desperate. Not even a year. That's gonna piss off a lot people. The wifi is the only improvement other than style. Better pray for the screen to work well this time, and the OS. Who gives a shit. Good luck. BB

I think the BB Storm was a failure, although some people do like the phone. Blackberry has always been in the corporate phone market and this was their first attempt to break into a slightly different customer base. That said, I hope to see Blackberry stand by it's loyal users that purchased the original Storm. We were the 'beta users" and unfortunately the phone didn't do everything we expected.

I am a huge BB advocate, even back in my days of selling, but I have to agree that the Storm was and is a disappointment. While most returns due to "my phone is messed up," is user error, RIM's first shot at making a touch screen phone was a failure.

The phone being messed up is hardly the truth, its all user error. You and I both know that a BB can be a learning experience for new users. Quite honestly these people were expecting an iphone and they didnt get a toy they got a solid device.

I disagree 100% with this statement. I've owned 7 Blackberry's and was not fond of this phone. I do feel the phone was designed to be used by non-business customers, but it was not marketed that way in my opinion.

As for the issues, the sounds quality was horrible, the keyboard wasn't easy to use for larger emails / texts, the phone locked up on a regular basis (I don't leave applications running, I reboot my phone once a day, etc...), when changing to functions such as the phone I would see an extreme lag, etc...

The phone had a lot of issues. Some people are happy with the phone and they should continue using it, but I feel the phone was a failure for Blackberry. Blackberry sold a lot of units and probably did well financially, but they tarnished their reputation. I think people will be more hesitant before buying another touch screen Blackberry.

That said, I don't think I'll buy another touch screen phone unless it has a physical keyboard. This is due to preference and the number of emails / texts I send a day.
