Verizon Wireless Blitz Review

The reception on the Blitz was lackluster at best, with only 2 bars of 1x showing in a strong coverage area, where most other phones show 3-4 bars.  However, the real test is using the phone in several places.  We were able to place calls around South FL area without problem, but once we started going into more fringe areas, the audio would begin to drop out and the calls would eventually disconnect.  Call quality through the earpiece speaker was also a disappointment, as it sounded like people were talking through a kazoo, causing their voice to sound “metallic”.  People that we called on a landline said that our voice sounded hollow and they could easily tell we were using a cell phone.  The speakerphone faired even worse with a lot of distortion being heard if the volume were turned up past the lowest setting.  Yet again, the enV2 does better in these categories, with excellent reception and call quality.

The included 920mAh battery is rated to give 4.6 hours of talk time, or 11.6 days of standby time on a full charge.  Our testing revealed a more accurate 4 hours of talk time, which is less than the enV2’s 6 hours of talk time, but slightly better than the Alias’ 3 hours of talk time.

Conclusion:

One look at the Blitz and most people will immediately think “kids phone”, due to the color and overall toy-like styling.  Even though it has some features going for it, such as the large display and QWERTY keypad, both are poorly designed.  The reception and call quality are also two main areas of concern, and neither faired well during our tests.  Overall, the Blitz could be a good starter-phone, as would the Alias, for pre-teens under the age of 12, but in every respect the enV2 is a more capable and higher quality device.

this is supposed to be a kids phone. i am sure the columnist knows this, since he stated it in the opening paragraph. with that said, why would one of the negatives be NO EVDO. Since when does a parent want a kid phone that is capable of EVDO , they usually want to block all features EXCEPT text. so it should not be in the negative, this is a phone that will be popular with ANY KID. yet the columnist is rating it like he would take it home and use it as his primary phone. what a fool. Phonearena.com has great news breaks, but their staff writers must not have even graduated college.

and p.s. MJGIO - your mom.

This phone still has Mobile Web and VZNavigator, but it takes lokger to load since it lacks EVDO.

I can see the "kid" factor applied generously here. But seriously, the EnV2 barely costs much for a QWERTY phone, and the Alias costs the same as the Blitz. Verizon doesn't do very well with sliding QWERTY phones do they? (Except smartphones). The Glyde only costs $20 more, because it's just as bad, lol. But at least the Glyde looks ok. I see this thing going to $$FREE$$ and out of production pretty fast for a phone

I work for a verizon store and honestly i thought this phone wouldnt sell at all when i first saw it. The kids do love it though. Lets face it this day and age all the kids 15 and under only care about texting so this phone is great for them. I just hope that it comes out in a few more colors sometime soon. I could see that realy boosting its sales.

Just picked up this phone the other day for 50 bucks online. I can definitely say this phone is worth the the little amount you pay for it.

wow. this phone actually seems pretty cool. especially because i can get it for 39.99 on my plan. but the review seems very biased. the reviewer constantly compares this phone to the env2. i dont think this was a very fair review.
