VZ Wireless to release Palm Centro on June 13th

The hugely successful Palm Centro phone will finally land on the VZW shelves on Friday, June 13th. Palm has sold more than 1 million units since its launch with Sprint last October. Now its time for Verizon customers to snatch it for $269.99 plus a $100 rebate with 2 contract, $339.99 plus a $100 rebate with one year one, or get it at full retail price of $389.99. There is also a $100 discount for signing up for unlimited data.

Earlier leaked images show it with a dark blue color and included Wireless Sync service.

I believe that he is talking about a $70.00 "Mail In" Rebate, not instant. On the current Verizon Rebate pads it is $70.00 Mail In Rebate, but this rebate amount may change after June 15, 2008.

I understand what he's referring to, however I've sold two of these already.
In our order systems before you finalize the order if you look at the MIR section it says $100 MIR.
Meaning our order systems are auto attaching a $100 mail in rebate, so I dunno

NOT the $100 Advanced Device Credit that auto discounts the total price of the phone.
If you're a VZW rep you should know what I'm talking about, if not ask your manager to re-train you on ACSS.

As another rep (I am not the previous poster) when you set up the sale for the Centro it attaches a 100.00 MIR in addition to the Advance device redit, at least it does when I put it in ACCS.

so let me ask you reps at the store level selling these.. I have NE2 available to me, I do NOT want a/ugrade to a required data plan as I just want the phone to replace my old 650 and allow me to keep all my legacy 6 years of Palm data and applications.. so what am I going to pay for this phone? I know Palm has a rebate if you buy from them ( http://www.palm.com/us/promotions/centro-rebate/index.html?Email_Address_ID=#Email_Address_ID%23 ) and I read all about these pricing promotions/rebates, etc via Verizon.. so I have no idea how it would shake out in the end. I also hear that now Verizon has a $20 "upgrade fee" - so I get these offers in the mail about "saving on a new PDA phone" and yet they then want to add a "upgrade fee".. I just want some idea what I can get this phone for on a 2 year contract using my NE2 and the applicable rebates (whatever they are) and just keep the 450 minute at $50 a month plan I have. I just want the phone and nothing else but I cannot tell if that is even possible without a forced "data plan" upgrade, fees, maybe rebates????

VerizonWireless charges a $20 upgrade fee for the primary line doing an early upgrade, because you've already reached your NE2 mark, you're not considered an early upgrade, so therefore no EU fee.

Now your NE2 will drop this phone down to $169.99 and then you will have your $100 mail in rebate.
Now customers purchasing this device along with a voice calling plan of $39.99 or higher WITH an unlimited PDA/smartphone data plan are eligible for an additional $100 credit toward the purchase of the device. This credit is in addition to the mail-in rebate associated with the purchase of the device.
I'd say its worth it to get the unlimited data plan for a month to save an additional $100 off of the phone.


Oh and the only device you HAVE to have a data plan is a Blackberry, all other PDA/Smartphones with have the unlimited data, 10 mb or pay as you go, which I'm guessing you have the pay as you go right now, so you would remain on that.

yes.. I just use the pay as you go data plan because.. I do not use it.

so.. could I signup for the $79 data plan to get the 100$ additional phone credit, then cancel it like a month later without some retro-active fee and just roll back to the pay as you go plan with $50 a month I had?

my concern is that if I pay $50 a month now, I would have to bump up to a $79 a month (my plan + the data plan) just too get this phone affordable as other carriers are offering it. that would save me $100 more off phone cost. but in the end, for me, $100 more for the phone (to get that credit for taking a data plan) could be paid for in about 3.5 months of savings by NOT paying $79 a month but sticking at $50 with no data plan.

you have to keep the data plan for 3 months in order to keep the 100 dollar credit.......so in the long run it may not even be worth it to get the data plan if you don't want it because you will be paying about the same by the time you pay for the data and or get the data to save a 100 dollars on the phone

Exactly what the person before me said, you do NOT have to keep the data plan, VerizonWireless wouldn't track something like that.

If you buy at an authorized reseller, then possibly they might have a stipulation like that, however in our policy and eligibilty it does not say you are going to lose your ADC for removing your data plan.

anyway.. my plan is to try to do 269 -100 NE2 on 2 year contract - 100 data plan credit I will sign up for at time of purchase - 70 MI rebate = 0 cost and then cancel the data plan like 2 days later.

Absolutely nothing. It's too big to be a small PDA phone, to small to be practical, the keyboard is so cramped it's essentially useless, and it feels like the cheap POS that it actually is. Other than that it's a great phone.

Too big? It's one of the smallest PDA's out there. The keyboard looks cramped but even guys with sausage fingers have no issue using it once you get used to using the top/tip of your thumbs. For the price, this is a great choice for those looking to for a cheaper alternative to other touch screen PDA's.

ok i like how all you are talkin and dont even know what you are talkin bout to the guy about att go ahead and get there centro buut you will be on a crappy network gsm aint even all that except for when you are out of the country thats it cdma is way more reliable and for someone who critizing phones do you own or did you buy one and not know how to use it at one point so you took it back complaining bout the keys being to small and the phone not being practical dude get out write somethng intelligent the is a good phone for those who like palm and dont want a big freakin palm device simple as that.

I assume you were replying to my post. I'll try to respond to you, though without punctuation, it's kind of hard to tell what you were saying. Smartphones in the last few years have gotten either smarter or smaller or both. Palm has done neither and thus failed to innovate and lead the industry anymore. If you want a cheap toy, get a Centro. If you want quality and innovation, Blackberry, iphone, or any non-Palm windows mobile is the way to go.

Cant say I dont agree with you about CDMA being more reliable than GSM. I can say GSM phones are better than CDMA phones due the fact that you can switch your sim to any phone you want and the fact that GSM is available Internationally make the palm eve more appealing to business people that need a phone to work overseas. I like the palm and I DO in fact have one, it is a great phone with the exception of the outdated OS. Otherwise it is a good phone.

I agree with you about the SIM cards...they are WAY easier to deal with. People complain about losing them, btu heres an idea: DON'T LOSE IT! The cards can't persuade me enough to go to GSM, though.

GSM= more convenient
CDMA= better coverage and reliability

Who's C DAM? .. sorry bad joke. When it comes to the Centro, the processor is a lot slower due to the fact that it is a smaller phone. Other than that, the phone's is waaay to small for typing and the OS is the same as the Treo 755p. This is info from my Palm rep. Overall, go Blackberry

I just confirmed with a VZW operator that the Centro will be released on Friday, June 13th. But she wasn't sure about what rebates if any will be available for the phone.

The phone will be $269.99, less my NE2 credit, the phone would be $169.99.

Does any know, or can they confirm whether there will be any rebates (mail in or instant), and whether the phone will qualify for the Advanced Device Credit?
