I HATE how you have to go to the store in order to update it... Why can't you download it from your computer like with the iphone???

There should be an OTA push (Over the Air) Firmware upgrade after this last one. So from now on you'll just click update, and it will do it over the air. No going into store. Dare/Chocolate 3 and a few others can already do this. No need to even go home over the internet, It will load right over the VZW network.

I got my original voyager flashed and the vvm works great. It did erase my 2 games but just call customer service and they will credit it back. I also get a lot of voicemails for my business and I love the fact I can now save certain voicemails to my memory card or my phone and listen to them again on the go without having to dial or pull up my voicemail. And to number 12, your right most of the world is using gsm technology. However I'm a sound engineer and I challenge anyone to go use a gsm and cdma phone for a week, and as long as you are not deaf you will notice a huge difference on calls. Cdma phones are much clearer in sound quality and have virtually no loud static when comparing them to gsm phones. You don't have to believe me just read JD Power and associates comparison between the 2 technologies. Me personally I don't ever go out of the usa so I could care less, I can't travel to as many places in the world with a cdma phone as I can with a gsm phone. And to everyone that posts, we all don't need to be 9 year olds and say this or that company is best, or that company sucks, when in fact each different cell company has there own perks. But isn't it great for the consumer to have the choice to choose which carrier best fits their needs?

i have 1 question, i have the old voyager (the black 1) and i just wanted to kno if i did get the upgrade will it erase everything tht i hav on my phone? (like pics, games, numbers etc.) and if it does wht if i lock all of the things will they be there after i upgrade?

yes, it will erase anything you have downloaded during the update. it will however not touch your contacts. make sure to have anything you want saved on a memory card before hand.

#34, I'm going to bet that you are a 14 year old who thinks the sidekick is killer but hates his dad for making the whole family have Verizon haha. "But daaaaad! T-Mobile is getting the Android phone! I would look soooo COOL with that as long as nobody askes me to do anything with it like make a phone call outside city limits or expect a web page to load today!"

I'm a 14 year old who thinks the voyager is killer, and pays for my own plan (450 minute premium, my fav) and thinks that other phone companies try to hard and end up making good phones with crappy plans... if that counts for anything... But don't get me wrong, all other companies have strong points but verizon is the best for me

ANYTIME YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH YOUR EQUIPMENT AND GO INTO A VZW STORE THAT HAS A TECH AND HAVE TO HAVE EQUIPMENT SWITCHED ON YOUR ACCOUNT BY THE TECH, VZW WILL CREDIT YOUR ACCOUNT FOR THE RE DOWNLOAD OF THE SAME GAMES, APPLICAATIONS, RINGTONES...

Generally, unless there's a problem, any SW update will backup contacts, pics, vids, but will clear any GIN (get it now) dl's you have (games, ringtones, ect) GIN apps will be re-credited to you for DL as long as you call customer service and request it. (isn't quite automatic).
I always recommend a memory card though especially if you have music on it and are using your phone as a digital camera. lol
Locking files won't make any difference. a SW update is essentially like reinstalling windows on your PC. It will re-format the phone and reinstall the OS. Backing files up first to restore them later.

At least we have an actual tech dept. I like how people complain that a phone doesn't look as cool as say....the iPhone. Or that we charge 2.99 for an over-the-top service like VVM, VS the iPhone which includes it for only $30/mo. And yet no one mentions our wonderful execution of warranty Fru's (field replacement units) for people with defective units, or free software updates and now FOTA (firmware over the air). Not to mention JD Powers rated us #1 in customer service in their last report for retail walk-in, shortest time waiting on cust service phone, and a couple of other things I can't remember (damn). All this coupled with the number 1 rated network in the US by JD Powers and consumer reports makes VZW a good company despite its lack of the instinct or iPhone.

Each is entitled to their own opinion. Mine is that buying and iPhone or an Instinct is comparable to purchasing a PS3 and hooking it up to a 15 inch black and white TV/VCR combo.
