UPDATED with video: Verizon's Motorola Droid site take a jab at the iPhone by saying

iDon't have a real keyboard. iDon't run simultaneous apps. iDon't take night shots. iDon't allow open development. iDon't customize. iDon't run widgets. iDon't have interchangeable batteries. Everything iDon't...Droid Does.

This is the slogan on the new Motorola Droid teaser site that was unofficially launched by Verizon Wireless today. After viewing the catch phrases, you are instructed to enter your E-Mail address to receive updates. At the bottom of the screen there looks to be some type of countdown timer, but instead of numbers there are symbols, but it appears to be Months, Days, Hours, and Seconds. After you register your email address, you get the following reply saying that you don't need a smartphone, you need a supergenius in your pocket. Regardless, we're glad to see things are coming along and hope the Droid will be released before too long.

Motorola Droid A855 Preliminary Specifications

*UPDATE*
A few people on Howard Forums have claimed to decrypt  the countdown clock, and say it end Midnight Oct 30.
There is also a banner ad saying "Droid Does November".

*UPDATE 2*
There was a TV Commercial for the Droid tonight and it has been posted to YouTube.
It clearly says November at the end, and at the bottom there is legal disclosure saying

George Lucas copyrighted the name 'droid!!!??? How can you copyright such a generic word as android?? If thats the case im about ready to start copyrighting every common use term I can come up with and live off of the royalties.

Lucas probably TM the name droid in like 1970-whatever when the first Star Wars movie came out... waaaaaay before a term such as "droid" could be deemed common. Besides, even the word Android is trademarked by another company, and google has been, and still is getting slapped with litigation from the company that owns the rights to the term "Android." So your comment is flawed twice, deal with it.

I dunno...take shots all you want, but iPhone is big for a reason...and the iPhone didn't have to do that by taking jabs.

That being said, I am excited to see what Android will develop into.

Is Verizon really starting an entire campaign against the iPhone? Seriously? I didn't know that the iPhone was becoming so dominant...well actually I did. But with all those advertising, "The Droid" better deliver.

It isnt Oct 31, it is midnight of Oct 29 (really Oct 30). Right now, the timer reads: 12:02:27:00 (12 days, 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 0 seconds). This may seem an hour off, but on the Eastern coast it is 9:33 now.

Ninja, while your logic certainly makes sense, (and provides for a better date/time), I personally think given all the information that Nov 11th at noon is more likely

Checked by switching my clock and it does stop counting if you switch your computer to Oct 30th, so that looks like the day, pretty psyched myself. now just pricing would be nice

vzwtechbill: see my response to gt183, and because of http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/10/05/motorola-droid-sholes-tao-launching-october-30th/ i think the 30th is much more likely. Also, above the update was changed to sat midnight of Oct 30 (not sure if this means 29th/30th or 30th/31th though)

sethdras: wonderful!

I dont think "droid" is a phone, Im sure its reffering to android and a phone but not the "name" of it (obviously). I love the way Verizon is sticking it out there about the network and the iPhone people are blinded by a shiny you tube machine and they are missing the purpose..Psychologically it makes sense to be agressive in a market that sells out to "missing the whole point" to a cell phone. Agree or disagree, your choice, but VZW Fanman and VZWEMP got it right! People are coming back after the iphone...its only as popular as the Apple computer consumers and statistics are showing those are the only ones keeping it.

If people are coming back on their own, what's the point of this advertisement?

What's the poing of McDonalds advertising? What's the poing of Nike advertising? What's the poing of the iPhone advertising? The answer is the same in all cases. The poing of any advertisement is to gain revenue and attract customers.

I think I decrypted it correctly, someone can verify this though:

As of around 9:47PM EST 10/14/09 the code reads 23:13:23:XX, which would put it at a release date of November 11th.

see my post above: You are one off on each number. It changes at 9, not 0 (52, 51, 50, 49, 48). I had made that mistake, but I had heard that it may come out on Oct 30 yesterday, and found my error.

Also, if you add the minutes and hours up in your version you get 11:11AM (lol, maybe you are right). Subtracting one from each digit gives you midnight (which I believe is more likely than 11:11). I feel sorry for you about the env touch though.

GT183: Just decline shipping, don't open the box and all will be good. If you activate it you are screwed.

thats a really long slogan supporting andriod but not motorola itself. i kinda think motorola is depending to much on android. it is an open platform but they should at least do something else. i mean palm used to use wm now they created the webOS and look how good it is, they didnt depend on android all the time. htc uses both android and wm. not all just android. and when they do, they make it greater than it is, they made touchflo and senseui.

the storm is not a downgrade man, it's an upgrade. the storm2 will be way better than the iphone. :-). the iphone is so boring looking, no send or end buttons, it's all just all wrong.

Yes and I bet a bunch of Storm and enV Touch owners run to the iPhone... In my experience of every person I know that owns an iPhone, they are following sheep anyways and don't have their own identity and think the iPhone provides them instant satisfaction of "coolness" (of which every single owner I know is lacking) and "belonging" (again becuase they are all mindless sheep they are needy).

But in my defence, I hate all apple products. No I don't work for Microsoft, and yes I am ready for all you sheep to give me nagatives and cry like the 14-year-old babies you are, either in real life or in maturity and intellect. BRING IT!

Any good phone can be sold within firts days of launch, but still cant match the iphone.....the big red is acting like desperate house wives people keep leaving them for the iphone and with this add I dont think VZW will get the iphone anytime soon.....!!!

I gave you possitive dogi. becuase I do think it is bad to point your whole advertising campaign against one phone... Kinda like AT&T's whole campaign is based around the iPhone... bad business strategy. VZW should man-up and just market the game they bring of being solid with service and network. AT&T should start building their network better to counter the 3G claims so we as consumers would all benefit more from direct compentition I would be happy. Obviously VZW doesn't see AT&T as a threat, but the iPhone as an entity against them, it just so happens that AT&T carries it.
