*UPDATED* Samsung Glyde U940 official Verizon release on May 9th

The long overdue Samsung Glyde U940 has finally shown up in Verizon's InfoManager system. Unfortunately, no release date or price is listed along with it. All that is shown, are the official specs of the device, press photos, and an on-line user guide. However, rumor has it that 2-year pricing will be $299 and will be released in May.

*UPDATE 1* We have received reliable information saying that the Glyde will be released on-line May 9, with an in-store release the following week.

*UPDATE 2* The Verizon site now has a picture of the Glyde uploaded, as well as an updated help page.

really?? Funny you say that when they're ranked the highest in JD Power & Associates and Consumer
Reports. although... they're being recently being won over by Alltel--in the areas that Alltel and
VZW co-exist! So... I was wondering, was this just a personal gripe with VZW or were you
actually going off quantifiable facts that actually mean something?

My girlfriend works for Verizon and she had a hands on experience with the glyde at there last managers meeting and she said the date was confirmed for July!

Clone
Clearly this is Samsung's version of the Voyager. I will keep my trust with LG since they are a reputable phone maker. Samsung has really slacked in the cell phone market of late (except for the Gleam and Juke). The Alias? Horrible !!! The i760? Decent !!! I hope the Glyde lives up to the hype.

Clearly you are poorly informed. This phone has been out for a while in a GSM variant. There is
NO way this is a Clone of the Voyager. VZW is just trying to diversify its product line and give
consumers a choice of touchscreen, QWERTY phones.

The interface of the GSM F700 has nothing in common with that of the Glyde - see the preview of the
F700 and the pictures of the Glyde in the site.

Clearly I AM well informed. The UI and touchscreen is slightly different than the f700. With all
the specs that it has ( including the HTML browser ), this will VZW's next fully touch screen non-
smartphone. The only divesrity in that is that it is a different phone manufacturer. Keep in
mind, the Voyager is really a variant of the Prada, so it too was out for a while before LG
released the Voyager to VZW.... and the Prada and f700 had a lot in common.

Software aside b/c it is VZW after all and both the voyager and the glyde have the std VZW UI but
that doesn't degate the fact that the hardware for the phone has been out for quite some time. The
Voyager may have been based on the Prada, but when announced 1/07, the Prada didn't have any hinged
qwerty feature. When the f700 was announced a month later, it DID. So don't bullshit a
bullshitter. As far as UI goes, I am excited to see what exactly of Croix VZW let get mixed into
their UI. This phone is what is what I am waiting for to switch to VZW from Tmo

WELL SAMSUNG ISNT BAD AT ALL. PRETTY RELIABLE PHONES. I'VE HAD LG'S MOTOROLAS AND FINALLY NOW I
HAVE THE SAMSUNG U740 AND ITS THE BEST PHONE IVE EVER HAD. SO YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE MAY BE THAT
YOU DONT LIKE THE U740 BUT HAVE YOU OWNED IT? I DROP THIS THING CONSTANTLY AND ITS HELD UP BETTER
THAN ANY PHONE IVE EVER HAD.

The samsung u740 is MEH! It is too hard to type with your left hand, and the numbers are annoyingly
small when trying to dial a phone number. I have had this phone since last summer and am not
impressed with it. The battery pops off every time i drop it, so you must have a super tight back
lol

As far as the glyde and the Voyager go.....

Voyager is a better phone, the ui has less of a lag than the samsung Glyde (what a suprise, every
samsung lags 1-2 seconds once you put in several hundred contacts, but no where near as bad as the
motorola 3-5 second lag) The ui on both the voyager and the glyde are much better than that of the
Venus

I do like the Glyde's slider better than the hinge of the Voyager, but its designed for a left
handed person, as is the Samsung I760.

I played with a Glyde earlier today, the camera is clear but it is not nearly as friendly to use as
the voyagers is.

will give more results once it launches this weekend and we play with them after activated on the
network

All I ask.................
All I ask for in this phone, if I get it, is that unlike the Voyager, I hope that the speaker and ringtone volume will be much louder. That is all I ask for. Hey, I've accepted the fact that Verizon is not exactly known for it's great phones. Once you get that, you have the best reception on the planet.

right in the infomanager (on a diff page) it says comming may 9th. That is your launch date.
