The new UIQ 3.3, based on Symbian OS v 9.3, includes enhancements in concordance with the market requirements. Besides the new Opera browser 9.5 and a full set Java JSR 248 support, the update will include an enhanced support for several major carriers, which will make it easier for the manufacturers to implement in their phones and “extensive customization for addressing different market segments.” Other new extras are the Widget Manager, coming as part of the new browser version and the full-feature unified messaging suite. The first one enables users “see, run, download and remove widgets on the phone.” And the second one, makes sending messages (SMS, MMS, voice and rich text messaging) easier. The UIQ 3.3 is available for UIQ Technology licensees, partners and third- party developers.
