Uh oh. The stage has been set for a knock 'em down, no holds barred punchfest between two touchscreen phones, neither of which have sold one unit to consumers yet. A senior executive who works for the Australian carrier Telstra has let the cat out of the bag and hinted that a new phone from HTC, using a combination of Android and Linux, will be introduced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona. The exec went on to say that this new phone from HTC is better than the recently introduced Palm Pre and is more functional than the new device, just voted "Best In Show" at CES. Sounds like fighting words to me. The new phone is expected to come to market in the second quarter of 2009. Until both the new HTC model and the new Palm device have been on the shelves for a while, I think we should have both sides stay in a neutral corner. Now, if we did have a tournament, which cellphone would be the heavyweight champion?

Without seeing anything on this,I still have faith in HTC and think they can top anything out there on the market to date. I just hope when they do drop this Android , Verizon Wireless/Alltel is the company that will get it.

That maybe true. But they might release a GSM version first, since it was Telstra talking about it. So I'm betting on either T-Mobile, or maybe ATT. Just hope there's a better xenon camera and multi-touch.

But I'm sure Verizon would want to get their hands on one, so there should be a CDMA version, someday.

well godfather since Verizon is not part of the Open Handset alliance I doubt they will see android anytime soon unless they want the canibalize on the phone they put all their eggs into "STORM"

Actually, phoneguy is right. So it might be that Sprint might get a CDMA version. And that also leaves out AT&T, since they are not a member. So I guess T-Mobile might get another android unit. Which means I gotta play the waiting game.

Maybe someone could shed some light, but last time I was in Australia Telstra is a CDMA Carrier. So where does GSM come into play with this new phone?

Regarding Palm, all this fanfare over something that has been done many times over.....This OS at BEST wiill just be another touchwiz/touchflo/android/windows UI clone. I dont get it. Phone of the show??????? How is this any differant from ANY other pda?

Your half right on this one. Its true that its going to be the same OS as the g1 but on a different phone (key word DIFFERENT). while the OS may be the same the phones can be totally different, like the g1 don't do multi-touch this one might, the g1 don't have a 3.5mm jack this one might, this one might have a 3.5"screen (bigger than the g1 3.2"), this one might be a full touch screen (losing that g1 chin) and the list can go on and on. So while the OS is the same, the phone that the OS is running on is just as important.

P.S. and for my last wish this one might just be the touch HD running Android with a 8mp camera

The G1 has multi-touch capability but it's just not utilized. Check this out if you want something to read. It over my head but this guy has a stock G1 with multi-touch.

Also take this for whats its worth but this is said to be the 09 HTC Roadmap...and if this is true then a version of the HD Pro will be hitting Sprint, VZW, and T-Mo. I hope it is true!
