Most of the phones, operating on Windows Mobile are produced by HTC, and then are re-branded as various other brands like i-Mate, Qtek, T-Mobile and Cingular. An example of that is the HTC Wizard, which is offered like T-Mobile MDA and Cingular 8125, in the US. But there are more and more manufacturers of Smartphones to come. The XDA Atom was produced by Quanta; FCC showed an Inventec Mercury PocketPC Phone with QWERTY keyboard, which was also a quad-band GSM.
Now FCC approves another Taiwanese brand - Tatung. Tatung M1 is a quad-band GSM phone with GPRS and Bluetooth support. It misses both EDGE and Wi-Fi, and has low-res 176x220 pixels display. The screenshots in the manual of the device show the Cingular name as a network operator, so we guess that the US biggest carrier will offer the M1, taking the Windows Mobile to the masses. Tatung M1 main specifications are:
- Quad-band GSM phone with GPRS support
- Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphones OS; Java MIDP2.0
- TI OMAP 730, 208MHz Processor; 128MB NAND Flash, 64MB SDRAM
- 176x220, 65k color 2.2 TFT display
- 1.3-megapixel CMOS camera with flash; QVGA video capture
- Bluetooth v1.1, class 2; USB v1.1
- miniSD expandable memory
- 1100 mAh battery providing up to 200 hours of standby and 4 hours of talk time
- Support of Windows Mobile applications like Internet Explorer and Media Player
