T-Mobile will offer the HTC Dream for $200

A couple of days ago, it became clear that the first Android based device, the HTC Dream G1, will be announced by T-Mobile USA at a New York event on 23 September, but there wasn’t any information about its price. Today, this changed, as Wall Street Journal again quotes “people familiar with the matter”. The Dream is expected to sell for $199.99 with a contract, which is what AT&T and Apple are asking for the iPhone 3G.

Another interesting fact about the device is that it will carry the Google logo, in addition to these of the HTC (the manufacturer) and T-Mobile (the carrier).

Imagine that, The Touch HD running the Android OS. That would really be a "dream". Dont think you could possibly ask for more. I do have to add that I'm really dissapointed with HTC and Google for choosing this design for the "Dream". I mean of all the beautiful HTC phones that are out now... They could have at least made a variant of the "touch pro" and launched that as the "Dream" I'd gladly pay an additional $150 for that.

i wonder why people go gaga for brand new OS's just for the sake of it being different. has anyone ever tried a google OS phone? is it any good? lets reserve judgement until we get some real hands on time with it. it could be great. it also could be crap.

While I generally agree with your message, in this case, there have been many demo videos of Android floating around the web for some time now, and while that's not as good as actually using the device, it's pretty clear that the OS is something special.

Two words....Open Source

And they give the develepers full access to the phone so they can go wild with any apps they develope.

Will this phone really be successful? The OS looks nice on the demo videos, but the interface is not as nice and clean as the iPhone. If the interface is not "the greatest" one, then the only way the Dream is any better is by being technically superior: faster, more reliable, more memory, better features (GPS, sound quality, stereo bluetooth, etc). Is the Dream any of that? I think we'll find out in a week.
At the end of the day, Do common users really care about the OS being open source or not? The applications will be as good or as bad as the iPhone ones could be. Is the OS more reliable? As a user I want a phone that works, a phone that is easy to use and a phone that looks nice. If the cost of the HTC Dream is the same as an iPhone..., it will be tough to get buyers based only on the "open source" pitch (other than enthusiasts and techies)

DREAM ANDROID CRAP I HAVE AN MDA AND I DONT EVEN WANT HTC DIAMOND BECAUSE YOU CANT DISABLE FLOW 3D I LOVE WINDOWS MOBILE 6,1 SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON SOFT AND I WILL STICK WITH IT . FOR SIMPLE PEPLE DREAM OR I PHONE IS FINE BUT FOR REAL DEAL I AM WAITING FOR GIGABYTE MS82O OR SAMSUNG OMNIA THAT IS A REAL DEAL
